Why does the M1330 score better than the 1420 in WEI?

Why do I see the M1330 always getting a 4.1 versus all of the 1420s at 3.7 for the Windows Experience Index?

The change is in the graphics field "Desktop performance for Windows Aero" where the M1330 gets a 4.1 and the Dell 1420 gets a 3.7 ..

It's my understanding both machines use a 8400M GS 128mb DDR3.. Do 1420s underclock the 8400m? Is that what this is?

WEI isn't a good benchmark anyway. Don't worry about it.

Well I know it's not a good benchmark.. i'm just trying to understand why the pretty big difference between the systems.. especially since Dell is using the same videocard component in both systems.

Are they running the exact same drivers? That'd be the only thing causing the difference if the graphics score wasn't the same.

If these M1330 and 1420 are clocked the same, i think its because of native screen resolution...

Just pay no attention to it.. run 3dmark06 on both machines and see what happens.. my theory was based on benchmark tools when you run them at lower resolutions you get higher marks... same goes for games... lower resolutions higer fps..

my 3d mark 06 score is 13xx something which is quite ok for this card... but my WEI shows 3.4 for Windows Aero... How about that? I have hp dv9500 so there is no need hp to underclock my 8400 gs for heat issues etc.

see, there is no need to worry about WEI...

Because it's an XPS. Gets special treatment from Dell to insure a higher score :D
