I don't get it, why even use the $200 discount. I got all pumped and excited to take an additional $200 off and low and behold my $252 epp discount was taken away and replaced by a $200 student discount. So I went back and configured my laptop different ways hopeing to get the epp discount less than 200 and i couldn't. So then I left my preffered pricing webpage and went to the normal dell.com and tried to use the coupon and it wouldn't work. What's the point? why even have the discount? am I missing something?

The discounts used to stack.

-
so im not crazy. I called and asked about it because I used to get the exact same laptop for 880 and its now 1080. The only reason I didn't buy it then is because I was hopeing for a 4th of july sale. Dang, talk about a buzz killer
. awwww, 200 bucks was a 20% discount.

J/w what did the people at Dell say?

you should have asked for a quoted price through the rep
-
Same thing happened to me. I configured out a system, thought about it overnight and then when I configured it out on the internet the next day, 200 coupon wouldn't work. Called Dell and spoke to 2 reps. they wouln't honor it at all. They took off $5.01 compared to the internet price. Obviously, I didn't purchase it.
-
This really blows, I've heard some people have been able to get a rep to stack it for them, i wonder if there's any hope in calling several times to see if you can hit a good rep once...of course this happens the day my desktop craps out

I was able to do it. i wrote a thread yesterday on how i was able to do it, it was through the home department and not the epp one which was weird.
-
i'll have tried them all, education department, home dept, small buss dept. I called and spoke to the rep and he told me its one or the other, i can't stack. he put me on hold for 20 mins, came back and said he tried everything he could be he could not stack them. At the end of the conv he asked if there was anything else he could do and I said, if you can stack the coupons I'll buy it right now, cash-in-hand. He chuckled and said sorry, no.

its all about finding the right rep i suppose.
-
I dunno, sounds like they have just caught on to the deal, which is stupid...if you consider that it makes no sense to have the $25x off offer along with the coupon, since one completely nullifies the other, why even offer the coupon
-
I got real lucky then.
I configured mine with both about a week ago and was going to wait until i needed it in <1 month, but then my dad walked in and told me to order it now. Then the next day i was kind of regretting it until just now.
As for your original question, with a 12% epp if you configure it for $1785 or less then you will save more using the $200 student discount. -
Look at what the coupon says, My school I had to purchase an Inspiron
"Get 200 off with coupon for a limited time on Inspiron notebooks priced 999 and above(before taxes, fees, EPP DISCOUNT, shipping and handling).
This limited-time offer is IN ADDITION to your Dell Student Discount, so be sure to shop now and MAXIMIZE your savings.
Both reps told me, I couldn't use it IN ADDITION with the EPP Discount, so therefore no MAXIMIZING savings. So I didn't buy it and not sure if I will now, I have been looking at different brands. -
I called again and begged and pleaded and the guy read me the bottom paragraph of the disclaimer of the discount. It says 'subject to change without notice' and he said he has changed. There is no way to stack them anymore.
Well at least now I know for about the same price I can get one TODAY at Circuit city instead of wait a month for dell. -
Well that subject to change without notice was not an my email with the discount code for the 200, but this is on the page of the Dell Unleased Site, where you register to receive email:
†ALL ORDERS ARE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE BY DELL. Offer subject to your school's continuing participation in the Dell Education Personal Purchase Program. Prices, specifications, availability and terms of offers may change without notice. Taxes, fees, shipping, handling and any applicable restocking charges are extra, and vary. Offers may be combined with other select offers or discounts. Valid for U.S. Dell Education Personal Purchase Program new purchases only. Dell cannot be responsible for pricing or other errors, and reserves the right to cancel orders arising from such errors.
*Offer valid 06/26/07 10am CT - 07/26/07 11:59pm CT. Coupon is not combinable with other coupons. Coupon is not combinable with Dell Home and Home Office instant dollars off, percent off, or mail-in rebates. One coupon per customer. Coupon is for one-time use only.
lst paragraph is says is can be used with other coupons and second paragraph it can't be used with certain items. Wonder why everyone is getting different prices and answers, Dell has no idea what they are doing with this promotion. Hey good luck... remember everything happens for a reason.... I getting a different laptop. -
So I called again and spoke with an EPP rep, he told me my coupon has been redeemed and I cannot get another one. I told him thats impossible and I haven't ordered anything. He said its been redeemed and there was nothing he could do. BS, im shopping somewhere else.

Are you sure you cant get the 200 off and the epp discount? the epp discount is the 4-12% off, not the 253 or the 292 off.
-
i know a few people who have gotten their nice bundle discount, AND $200 off ontop of that..
-
If you ordered early enough you could get both the bundle discount and the $200 off. The $200 savings is still nice for the people who don't use the "better" or "best" starting options and want to try to get a machine around 1k$ only. Start with the base system at 815$, and then depending on whether you care about warranty select one of those bundles (except I probably would get the premium since all you get is the expert help desk, which I dont think is worth 100$ imo) and you can get something nice if you're on a budget

Why even use the $200 student discount??
