I got the impression that more people like 1505/6400 than 1405/640m. Could anyone tell me what are the benefits of 1520 and 1505? Thanks.
Personally, I prefer 1420 and 640m because they are 1lb lighter.

You are making no sense whatsoever...

My reason for getting the 1420: compact for school :]
-
Because the E1505/6400 had a larger screen, more configurations were possible, and higher specs could be configured on the E1505 than on the E1405.

1420 > 1520 since it's smaller
-
1520 advantages:
- larger screen
- better video card available
1420 advantages:
- smaller
- lighter
- better battery life (not sure how much better)
That's it. Which one is better just depends on what's important to you. -
This is speaking of the past. While the designs were similar between the 1405 and 1505, as is the case with the new Inspiron line, a key difference between the former and the latter comparison is that the 14" Inspiron (1420) now offers a dedicated GPU. Although the more gamer-oriented members on this board will tell you that the 8400GS can't hold a candle to the 8600GT of the 1520, I feel that my 1420 suits me perfectly. I believe it's an incredibly well-rounded and well-built system that offers a great balance between portability and performance.
Additionally, while the 1520 and 1420 follow a similar design scheme, I actually find the 1420 to be a much more attractive notebook. I also like the latchless design of the 1420. -
First I found out was there was no 8600M GT available for 1420 on DELL India..
Also everything else remaining the same the price for the config in my signature for 1520 was Rs. 58401 while that for 1420 comes to Rs. 57513
So for the 8600 GT + a 15" screen for around Rs. 900 extra looked a better offer to me compared to the lightweight of 1420....

It depends on what you need it for. If you are traveling with it of course the 1420 cause of its size
Why is Inspiron 1520 better than 1420?
