I'm just wondering; it seems like everyone is so anxious about the exact date the laptop will arrive. I still haven't ordered mines yet, which may be why I can't seem to relate to the emotion but could someone explain why some people can be outraged a weeks delay? Is it because most people that create those topics really need the laptop really badly at a certain date?
Sorry if this offended anyone, I really did not intend that, I've been just wondering about this for a long time.

I placed my order for a Dell Vostro 1400 on Monday and my estimated shipping date was 9/10/2007 which scares me.
Personally, I'm trying to get the laptop before the 22nd which is when college will start for me.
I'm sure nobody wants to wait a month for their laptop to arrive.. -
I would have ordered earlier to have it by the start of semester with plenty of time to spare, but the new models only came out recently. Any significant delay would have meant another week or two without a laptop.
That's my story. -

Well I can't speak for everyone, but I am going back to University in Sept, so I needed my laptop before then. It's one of the reasons I ditched Dell, and went for my 6910p (well MBP first, but then someone offered me a 6910p for free). I think that a lot of people are wanting to their laptop before school starts.
Of course there are a lot of people that just want their new toy right away. When you pay thousands of dollars for something, you don't exactly want to wait months to get it. If you spend weeks/months researching laptops, finally coming to a decision, and then order it..... well waiting for it to show up can be killer. -
Oh boy, OP, watch out... with a thread title like that and your original post... the bullets are a comin' and the arrows will be flying.
I see this thread becoming 100+ posts long... heh, no it's not that bad.
Lesse, main issues are that people's wait times have been exceeding long to begin with, and then add on delays (usually over the 1 week you mentioned), and people needing it for school, and then people just really wanting their new toy, among many other reasons. I don't know that people are all over the exact date of arrival, but just imagine if you've been waiting over a month and getting delayed, you are gonna be much more interested in the shipping date, at least. And you're right - you'll probably be told by many that since you haven't ordered, you truly do not know. Which I agree with. I'm just starting my long wait, so I don't even know the 1/2 of it myself, yet. -

I was hoping not to cause a commotion HFB lol....
How long does the wait actually average out to be. It does make sense that you would want to have it come earlier and stuff but I guess I really do have to wait and go through it. I think its because I really don't need it atm, so.... -
-"Dude, I just bought tickets to Disneyland!"
*"Dude, me too!"
-"Sweet, I get to go there in 3 weeks when the soonest flight is available."
*"Ha! I get to go in a few days."
3 weeks later
*"Man Disneyland is so awesome, how do you like it?"
-"I wouldn't know, my flight was delayed a week, and there's no guarantee it won't be delayed again."
Ya, that's kind of what it's like. -
Do you think 8 weeks is a long enough delay (when we were originally told two weeks) to be outraged about? -
Necromas, I love analogies. Nice work.

Heh, the guys waiting for the Compal IFL90 has been waiting at least 2 months by now, and it's still ticking.
It's true waiting is not fun, especially in such a situation, but I agree most people are making a large ruckus about it. It's supply and demand, Dell couldn't avoid it, and it's kicking them in the rear. It's not their fault, nor their suppliers and manufacturers, but the market.
But who's going to think that when the scapegoat could be easily pointed at Dell. -
you could say it's dells fault, because they don't give accurate information.
i ordered my laptop at Rock, around 20th July
they gave me an estimated shipping date: 13/08
i received a mail yesterday, saying they were delayed because the 8700M won't be shipped TO them until the 20th August, and that shipping the notebooks will be more towards the end off august
i don't like it, but at least they inform us by mail as off the reasons (at least in this case, where it's not their fault)
-
-
its because after u order a laptop u are haunted by its shipping date, days go slower, and you keep checking the website multiple times a day
-
I paid for the thing, and it SHOULD get here as fast as possible. I haven't experienced any delays, but that's my personal opinion on it. But of course, Dell has to pump out thousands of these a day, etc.
Not to mention, when you order it you're full of excitement and you can't wait to get it. Then it gets delayed a month after a few weeks of already waiting. -
Why I wanna know when it ships: college. I need to know whether or not to change the shipping address. Plus I'm on week 6 of waiting and about to go into week 7. I'm on these forums constantly just trying to evaluate how good the m1330 actually is so I know if I should buy a MBP instead. As far as I know Apple charges a restocking fee, but Dell does not.
The ONLY downside I can see with the MBP is driver support under Vista. -
DEPRECIATION !!! Waiting 2 months for a laptop dell already have your money... in real world terms the price is falling... leaving dell quids in...
-
I ordered 7/1 and was given an estimated date of 7/20. From personal experience with Dell I thought it safe to assume it would arrive before this date and still would have been pleased to get it on 7/20. 3 delays later... you start to get really tired of waiting. -
mine are for business use so without then we are sol...
-
if that were true I'd cancel my order and get that.

Sometimes a week or in my case 3 more weeks can be a big deal. My 6 year old Inspiron 8100 is failing. 1/3 of the keyboard occasionally doesn't work. Not too big a problem as I can plug in a spare keyboard. The pointer sometimes shoots up to the upper right hand corner of the screen and stays there. A reboot often fixes that. My display seems to have a loose cable and becomes very fuzzy roughly 2/3 of every day. The left front corner of the case is loose and coming up and the right display hinge cover is separating. This morning it took 8 tries to get the computer to boot. This is a new one. I ordered my 1520 on July 19th thinking I would have it before this machine went kaflooy. However I've been pushed back to August 28th along with a lot of others. If my computer fails before then I'll have to go buy one off the shelf somewhere and get a less powerful machine than I'd like, but it would keep my business running. So I am a bit anxious about when my new PC will ship.
-
One thing to consider is that when you buy a computer, the second you hit the submit button your new computer is now depreciating. With the advancement of computer technology so fast, the $1000 you spend on a machine will get you more power for the same money the next month. If you have to wait 2 months for the machine you ordered you are in essence losing money by the delay as your value proposition worsens. Not to mention all the other inconvenieces that come along with a delay (lost productivity, you need it for school, your current machine is on its death bed, etc).

In the spirit of a Dell QVC commercial, these laptops are needed for one very important thing. Porno.
-
For me its the fact that I can walk into Best Buy with that same money and in 5 minutes walk out with a laptop, not having to wait 3+ weeks to get it. I've done that in the past, but this time I really, really wanted the WXGA+ for photo editing, so I needed to order somethign
-
As someone that's bought several Dell laptops, I can tell you that these delays people are experiencing are NOT normal. I'm anxious b/c my current laptop is gonna give out on me any day now, and I need my laptop for work. I ordered mine on 7/18 and have been delayed twice now. Under normal circumstances, I would've already had my laptop. I can't imagine what the people that ordered at the end of June or beginning of July are feeling. And I think that there's a ton of people on this forum that NEED their laptop (students, people using them for work - like myself- etc). If you're given one ship date, then you get another one, then another one, etc., it does get frustrating.

Hey everyone! First post on here but I have been lurking for a few weeks!
I have just joined the waiting game, Ordered A Brown 1520 yesterday through my dad's business, Praying that I will see it before october, but with some of the stories I can see how everyone gets fustrated! Haven't checked my status yet or anything, But Im dreading it!
Aaron ( In the Uk BTW, Northern ireland to be precise *prays that it will be fast as limericks only a few hundred miles away!*)
Edit: Im also hoping to have mine for doing my A levels, It woul;d be a great help for studying English Literature, Also I am hoping for it to become my new photoshop workstation, as I am an amateur photographer, So lets just hope its here by christmas =S -
That was the best video clip ever.

when I ordered my laptop I was told it will take one month, this is already rather long but ok at least you know you have to wait. After one month my order was delayed for nearly 7 weeks! Even when you order a car you don't wait 3 months to get it!
-
Another thing which 'gets' me is when dell upgrades you to NBD shipping, they dont actually do anything. I'm still getting shipped ground
-
For those of you who are leaving for college, is there not someone at home who can send it to you when it comes? My parents had to do that back in the Dark Ages when I was a freshman in college, lol...up until about mid-September I had to go to the computer labs on campus... -
As many others have said....the anxiety is due to going back to school. I'm freaking out because I don't know when I'm going to get my laptop now and I ordered it mid July! The thing that really makes me anxious is the fact that I ordered the 1420 on July 14th yet it is still in preproduction....school starts in under 20 days.

I'm glad I'm on quarters and not semesters! We don't go back until late September. Good luck to all waiting for theirs that go back sooner though...I'm behind you 100%!
-
you can choose between a 8700M (should ship as off now end of august) or a 7950 (which should ship 1 week sooner) -
As others have mentioned, it's going back to school. For me I was hoping to get a new laptop to take with me but I might have to be content with my old one...I'm sick of crossing my fingers in hope that it will boot.

Like many, I want mine before I leave for school... I do have my desktop to fall back on, but I wanted something a little more mobile.. As well, this is the first laptop I've ever purchased.. And of course, I like getting mail, that's reason enough to be obsessed with the shipping
-
3 months for a new car is pretty quick (or better said thats pretty much the fastest time you get a new one). I have heard stories for 7-9 months..
But back to the thread: I ordered 12 jul, i will not get it for at least 2 weeks.. won't you then get a bit more obsessed? Thats not just a week extra... -

wow, I did not expect this to errupt like this. I just hope you guys get your laptops in on time
-
That's what happens when all the pent up rage of students needing laptops before the start of their courses is unleashed upon the!
-
I'm not in need of it for school because my E1705 works perfectly fine I just want my new one because I spoil myself
Why is everyone so obsessed w/ shipping [please don't take this personally]
