I currently have a 256mb Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2 ghz), and 2.5 gb ram.
My 3dmark06 score:
3025
However, I read on the review for the Vostro 1500, that the user with a Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6Ghz) and 1gb ram achieved a score of 3319.
Why is my score lower even though my processor is much faster, more ram and the same gfx?
-
what resolution did you use? has to be the same resolution used in the reviews
also could be a driver issue too -
I'm fairly certain that you have the 1680x1050 screen, and the review had a 1440x900 or a 1280x800 screen, right?
-
Keep in mind that unless you purchase 3dmark06, I don't think you can change the resolution for testing purposes anyway.
-
i have the same problem... i have the same specs but a vostro 1700 and got a result of 3003!!!! OMG wtf?? I have the wuxga screen would that have something to do with it?
-
I'd say it has more to do with driver revisions or overclocking the graphics card than it does with your screen resolution. Actually, a higher screen resolution should have nothing to do with it, unless you are specifically changing the resolution IN 3DMARK before running the test. By default it runs at 1280x1024, and like someone said before, I don't think you CAN change it unless you have the full, registered version anyway. Maybe vista vs. xp has an effect as well?
Oh, and CPU and ram have basically no effect on the newer 3dmark benchmarks. If you want it to have an effect, run 3dmark01. That is the last 3dmark that could get any kind of sizeable boost from CPU speed and ram speed. -
I got 3153 for 3DMark06 though my CPU is only T5250 - 1.5Ghz
So I guess nothing to do with CPU speed...
See my 3DMark06 result here http://dellreview.googlepages.com/inspiron1520.htm -
That is low.
Here's mine on an external monitor.
By the way mate, for comparison, you have to bench at 1280x1024. -
joe, yours is OC'd. It doesn't go that high without OCing the 8600M GT.
-
well this sucks... just closed down all running background applications and my score went up by 3... *SIGH*!! i haven't overclocked because my laptop is brand new and im using the 163.67 drivers
-
I'm only pulling down 3008....

I really don't think 3dMark06 is a good test, I have a T7100 and a 8600GT and all I could get is 2650 at the default resolution, while others are getting over 3000. But yet I can run games perfectly fine.
-
take grain of salt for 3dmark06 test. I could get 38xx ish in 3dmark06 with extreme overclocking at reoslution 1280x1024 but then I could also get 33xx ish 3dmark06 using different driver at same resolution and clock speed, yet ingame speed only see minor difference.

hirush, totally agree with u, man...
make sure ur system is clean and u have the up-to-date drivers, and u good to go -
you guys are forgetting that 3dmark 06 free edition runs at 1280 x 1024.
most people who have reviewed their laptops have a 1280 x 800 screen or 1440 x 900 screen, so the laptop can not physically render 1024 in height. you have the better 1650x 1050 screen so it can run at the full 3d mark 06 resolution whereas ours will not have to render as many pixels therefore increasing our scores. its common sense really. -
well, i changed mine to 1280*800(yeah, u're right about the free and pay version) + u get more tests, they don't seem to lower the score, i got like 20-30 points plus. but yeah, test it in 1280*1024, cuz most people don't bother buying the pay version.

What resolution did you run your 3dmark06 with?
If it's 1920x1200, it's quite good!
-
If you're running Vista, To get optimum score for 3DMark06, make sure you set your laptop power plan to "Performance" or "Balanced". Running the test under "Power Saver" mode will degrade the score.
My score was below 2000 when running at "Power Saver" mode. After switch to "Balanced", I got 3153. -
Yeah got 3430 in 1280x800... probably a more reflective score since I run most games at this res.
Why is my 3dmark06 on Vostro 1500 score so low?
