I phoned "0870 907 4712" to check my status and the machine said it was being assembled, but its a "Scratch & Dent" outlet machine, it should be ready to ship. I chose to ask a customer support person and they told me i had the wrong department and that they would transfer me, then it told me to go check online and cut me off.![]()
I ordered on the 25/02, and it should be here on the 09/03 and i don't think its going to make it. 2 working days left before the weekend and 1 more before the day it should arrive.
How do i get more details on what is going on?![]()
Dell Vostro 1720 (anyone know problems with these, any overheating i should know of?)
Oh no, now the option of a WUXGA screen is not shown in the vostro line, they only have the WXGA.
I hope they haven't run out and i'm the unlucky guy last in line who has to wait for a WUXGA screen to be shipped to dell.
Under these circumstances how long after my date of order can i cancel it if it hasn't shown up as shipped or dispatched yet?
Oh , 15TH NOW?!?!
I want out, how do i cancel? help me
-
If it was a scratch and dent unit, it should have already been assembled and shipped. Not sure why such a delay would happen unless they mistakenly allowed you to buy a Scratch and Dent that had already been sold.
As to overheating, we are on our 2nd 1720 (first was stolen) and no issues. That said, both have used a P-series processor (not the hotter T-series) and both have used the x4500 graphics, not the nVidia graphics.
Maybe you are getting a new one if they 'accidentally' sold you one that they no longer had.
As to cancelling. Call them. They'll probably tell you they can't since it already 'in process'. If you still don't want it, don't open the box when it comes and call for a RMA. -
Its an Nvidia 9600GS
I'm disappointed by the delay and i'm struggling to find a laptop with a 1920x1200 screen, between a rock and a hard place, mixed emotions.
The lack of HDMI is really bugging me.
Anyone know which address i have to send it back to? i've read that the customer has to pay the shipping back to them.
Oh no, its getting worse
Now the website doesn't list the motherboards with the 9600GS OR the 1920x1200 lcd
Edit: why does the US site show both options? -
If you are going to return it:
Don't open the box when it arrives
Make sure to call them FIRST and get a return authorization
They 'should' send a pre-paid shipping label (I say 'should' as my experience with with Dell USA, might be some difference for UK, sorry)
They will typically hold your charge/cash until it is returned and inspected. My credit was very fast after it was logged as 'arrived' at their returns center. Credit was within a few days (though they say it could be longer)
Again, you could try calling them again and seeing why a 'scratch and dent' is 'in assembly'. Press to have the order cancelled and make sure your call is logged on your account.
My return process was quite painless and pretty quick, but as I've heard, "your mileage may vary". -
i think most dell(s) are pre assembled only. hey only fully assemble it once you order....
that's that's the beauty of dell laptops, you get to customize it on what you want compared to lenovo & hp that are already packaged/assembled -
OMG it Shipped!!

Estimated Delivery Date: Order Shipped

Nope, i'm staying strong and finding another laptop, the lack of HDMI is just too much. I used the HDMI output twice on my dv9000 and i'm not switching to older technology.
Apart from the HDMI, the laptop is 100% exactly on the dot what i wanted, everything from the nvidia card to the specific wireless card used, the big enter button on the keyboard and its layout, and the 16:10 lcd resolution, dual hdds
but feels like a downgrade from my dv9000 with Svideo, VGA and HDMI
Ok the p8700 doesn't support AES-NI, so its going back for certain, i was swaying back towards keeping it because of the screen but the addition of AES-NI in the i5-xxx cpus is certainly worth it
Oh great they left it with the neighbors, now i have to wait..
NOOOOOO!!!!!!
DELL GAVE ME A BROKEN LAPTOP!!!!!!!
The keyboard is broken
WXGA instead of the WUXGA screen
and it had the wrong charger!!
AND IT WAS LATE!
I AM FURIOUSLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
You orderd a laptop with the specs you wanted, WUXGA and such, then you find out stuff like the HDMI? And you don't want it anymore, but you don't cancel it. And you open it instead of asking to send it back while you were already 100% sure you didn't want to have it?
Why did you order it in the first place?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
But the keyboard wasn't properly seated:
The power adapter was the wrong type:
And the LCD wasn't my WUXGA dream display, i got the matte WSXGA:
All dell's fault -
Now that is crazy with the power adapter they sure ed up.
-
How can quality assurance miss this? I mean the keyboard is out of the chassis
Forgot this:
-
Haha, wow. Call Dell pronto. Send them the pics. You might get something good for this kerfuffle. I don't understand what I'm seeing with the power adaptor though. All Dells that size have the three prong box. My old 9230 did.
-
Thats what i got in the box

Call support or chat in, definitely. Worst case, use the unresolved issues link if needed: https://support.dell.com/support/to...t/dellcare/outstanding_issues?c=us&l=en&s=gen

That is pretty bad QC. Did they beat it with a hammer before shipping?
Why is my Dell outlet laptop being assembled?
