For the past few days, I woke up to my laptop's fan rather loud spinning. I noticed that my computer was constantly at 100% CPU usage even with like literally no processes opened, and it's idling ~50C.

It's to the point where moving my mouse across the screen lags, the pointer jumps from one spot to another.

I'm not really sure what the problem is, I ran AVG with no problem, and I don't remember doing anything to my computer in the past few days that would be considered abnormal...in fact, the only thing I did do was try to use a screensaver for the first time ever, but I turned it off with no difference,

If I were you I would call Dell and see if they can help you figure out the problem...

It seems to me that you could have a problem with your heat sinks or possibly your CPU. I certainly hope not, and I'm not entirely sure, but maybe... :S

Good luck with your problem! :)

What kind of computer is it? Have you blown out the air vents with compressed air?

That doesn't sound good. If you can't identify what program may be the source of the problem, you may want to try running spybot and looking for some spyware or spam. That has happened to me before.

Google a program call process explorer. This program will tell what process and what dll is causing the problem. Your can also download a program called malwarebytes. and then update and scan. Also you can download a program call ccleaner that will help clean the registry and clean anytemp files and delete or disable start up items

I've ran ccleaner a few times and an updated AVG.

Using the inspiron 1520, which often gets very hot. But the temp I getting is abnormally high, especially since I undervolted my CPU already.

Load up the Task Manager and see what's taking up 100% CPU. The processes tab should tell you what is sucking up all the CPU cycles.

So I found out what the problem was with process explorer. It doesn't even show up on task manager.

It's my wireless card, using a crap load of "Hardware Interrupts" on process explorer.

I woke up this morning to my laptops fan running wild, after turning off the wireless, the CPU instantly cooled down.

What should I do? According to people on google, reinstalling the drivers won't do much.

Check the Event Log to see if there are any errors there. I had a problem on my Dell, too, where every 10min it'll just load up the CPU, and it was the wireless card turning itself on/off, through Dell's QuickSet thing, so I told that program to stop managing the wireless, not sure if this is the same problem that you have.

I don't think any of the warnings/errors have anything to do with the problem but I'm not 100% sure. I don't have quickset on though.
