Just wondering. Maybe I'm not searching well enough, but I go to other notebook forums and there are not many complaints about the 1530 screen being grainy. Then you come to this forum and there are several multiple page threads about it in the first few pages.
Is it because people in these forums are more experienced and have seen more laptop screens and therefore are more adept at identifying issues?
Or is it because there are just more people going to these forums?

More people here likely..
Also.. People here are very picky.. And think their entitled to perfection.
-
Its not people are more experienced...its that they see one person say they have a problem then they magically see problems with theirs too that really aren't there.
-
By they way, I've never seen a 1530 so I'm not saying it's not grainy.
However, I do have an old Inspiron 6000 and after reading these forums went to look at my screen and I now think it is grainy and difficult to read text on white backgrounds... Thanks... -
what screen? res? brand?
-
I think it's the 1600x1050 screen and from what I read several screens are used in the 1530. LG = good, Samsung = grainy and another I haven't seen many comments either way.
There are other posts here that say the screen, even the Samsung, is not a 'bad' screen at all. -
-
I can say I have a 1680x1050 samsung and it's very bad! I havent a dell (even if I would prefer to have it), but this screen has good colours and contrast.. in the three quarters superior! @ the bottom there is an intense light leakage that makes colours and contrast bad, very bad. only my experience.

People read it.. then they worry, and inspect for their self. Then make uneducated and inexperienced conclusions. But in reality, they are unsure if they actually have the problems. -
Go to this forum and search on the term "sparkle": http://www.notebookforums.com/forum237.html
Here's one I found on the Dell forums: http://www.dellcommunity.com/suppor...S_Laptop&message.id=2654&query.id=98228#M2654
And there's another one on the Dell forums where a Dell representative admits there is a problem and further validates it by saying Dell is developing a technology that can determine the amount of grain/sparkle on a panel so they can better select out screens that are bad.
The screens are not wholly unusable, and it doesn't bother some people. LOL,"People here are very picky.. And think their entitled to perfection." And people who aren't picky and shell out 1000s of dollars for second rate crap without complaining or even knowing the difference are...suckers. -
The graininess according to Dell is the anti-glare coating which is noticeable in a light background. The glossy screen from Dell and HP are like night and day. HP screens are very reflective but Dell's screens not as much. I have do have an HP.

The notebookforums posts seem to be mostly for other models. I didn't see anything specific to the M1530. I guess if they all use the same LCD models it doesn't matter though.
What is surprising to me is that the Dell forums does not have much. Sure, there are a few posts, but not so many that it's alarming like these forums. Maybe Dell deletes posts? The reviews about this laptop on Dell's site is also really good 4.6/5 for about 100 ratings. I would have thought the reviews would be low if the screen was really bad. Though I'm sure many of those reviews are not for the 1600x1050 screen.

I have to add that for $1800, I expect better.. the screen was the sole reason I returned my m1530; I liked everything else.. -
I don't think we can justify that this is a problem screen since Hp on my recollection has grainy screen too. This could be just a matter of preference on the screen. I've seen screens that are not grainy at all and just plain white. So there are sparkly and plain white, simple as that.
Some good citizen found out to order an LG screen that is not the type of screen for the M1530 but it works. Dell will probably scratching their heads on why there were reports of allowed lg replacements. In the first place Dell should have not allowed the replacement after all cause it's reorganizing the xps unit itself and that's bad for business. -
I bet if I suddenly said that my LG screen looked grainy and slighty off... that others should check theirs, there would be a flood of others saying the same... -
I actually came to these forums due to the problem I had with my XPS m1530...I ended up sending it back and purchasing a refurbished model. The first laptop's screen had such back backlight bleed that I couldn't really distinguish colors toward the bottom of the screen.
-
Probably because its trough the first results in google for m1530, m1530 grainy, etc... terms.

For those of you that says its placebo, I have a 24" dell monitor that is made by samsung. Bottom line FACT (not opinion) is that my SEC3350 in my m1530 IS grainy/sparkly, and IS blue-ish on whites. Period. I agree that the placebo effect is very common, but once I got the LG screen installed it was plain as day difference with them sitting side by side.
I am not usually confrontational in forums, but please be informed before making judgements. Thanks. -

The LG that people are requesting is sometimes issued on the M1530, so it IS a type of screen for the M1530, it's just a lottery of sorts deciding on whether you get one.
Can you use the notebook with the sparkly screen? Yes. Would you want to after seeing the LG screen? No. After seeing the LG screen, the Samsung screen appears obviously flawed. Is it not flawed if you haven't seen the better screen? I don't know, if a bear poops in the forest and no one is there to smell it does it make a stink?
Why no complaints about 1530 screen except in this forum?
