Why has Dell taken away customization options for consumers? Makes no sense.

Previously one could customize a whole bunch of options and now practically nothing except accessories.

Looked at Lenovo as well. They allow customization but it seemed that the price of a customized unit went up a great deal when compared to factory config units.

Is this a trend that manufacturers are following nowadays? Force people to purchase factory config units?
