Why is there such a huge hole in Dell's XPS lineup? Is there really no market for anything between the M1210 and the M1710?

Is there a 1310, 1410, or 1510 in the works?

I just can't bring myself to haul a 17" monster around, but the 12" machine is a little on the anemic side for 3D.

And in a semi-related gripe... why does the 1210 have a 12" screen? There's a ton of wasted space around the border of the screen-- that could be a 13" screen without the machine getting any bigger.

isn't like the XPS series the GAMING series, and so a 15.4" isn't really a gaming laptop?

There are 15.4" notebooks and even 14.1" notebooks that have video cards as powerful as some of the 17" notebooks like the HP 17" pavilion line which maxes out with a Go 7600. The Asus W3J and some of the other Asus notebooks with X1600's and Go 7600's are some of the most popular gaming notebooks out there since they are more portable then a 17". I would also like to see Dell come out with a 15" XPS notebook and for them to at least have an X1600 or the new Go 7700 in it. I'm not sure why they havn't because they are missing out on a major market segment.

That might make sense if there wasn't a 12.1" XPS laptop already. So we have tiny and giant, and nothing in between.

Yeah there is a huge hole in the XPS lineup, and I really wish that a 1510 would have existed when I needed to buy my laptop. If you want a good 15.4/14" notebook with a 7600, Alienware has a great one. I also believe compaq and mabey soney have 14" with a downgraded 7600 to save on heat.

the speakers are under the lcd, so maybe there wasnt a whole lot of space to put it aside from there. Also, im sure a 13" would be more fragile in the same housing.

I'm really anxious for a 15.4" or 14.1" XPS with more graphical power than the 1210 and 7200rpm sata hard drive. I get a special deal on XPS machines through my work and I would really like to have a machine before my xmas vacation but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. For me the 1710 is just too large, out of the question. The 1210 is a bit too small and certainly doesn't have the power I need with a 7400 and only 5400rpm hard drives now available. Times running out and I think I'll have to go with a a T60p :(

The 1210 is the perfect size! I do quite a bit of gaming and internet and have never had a problem seeing everything.

However, I 14.2-15.4 XPS system would be nice for me because they would obviously have a better video card then in the 1210.

a 14 or 15 inch widescreen xps with a better graphics card than the xps1210 would really hit a sweet spot ... will they bring one out before xmas or will we need to wait till march/april with vista etc?

I would say spring time if ever. We would have gotten rumors/pictures by now if they were releasing one in a few months.

Exactly, if there was a 14/15" XPS coming for the holiday season Dell would have made sure we knew about it. There would have been rumors leaked, pictures released, and reviews/articles about it. I would say spring at the earliest, mabey even summer. But yeah I hope there will still be one in about 3, since thats when ill be setting the 1210.

15" XPS dell with a GO7700 = not bad idea. If they release that version of laptop, it's gonna be best seller soon, cause 17" is too big to carrying around.

I would love to see a 15' XPS too! Dells are reliable. I have checked the Alienware before i got this 1210, and i saw that their warrenty etc. are on the poor side, and they are dam expensive! my was only $9995HK
