    Hi

Just for curiosity, I want to know, If Dell is saying " Previously Ordered New" laptops are not used by users, and its much cheaper than new laptops, then WHY people still buy new laptops instead of buying from Dell store ?

I can understand of not buying "Certified Refurbished" and "Scratch & Dent" ones, but there are no issues with "Previously Ordered New" category, which is actually NEW/UNUSED laptops with cheaper price.

Because people want to have the specs in the machine THEY want, not what someone else ordered? I've yet to find a machine at the outlet that duplicates the system I bought, there is always something missing. (smaller harddrive, different screen etc). Fine if you are on a budget and are ok with that, but most people buying a $1500.00 laptop are planning on keeping it a while, and want to start off with it built to their satisfaction.

Because 'previously new' can also include a user taking the product out of the box and possibly putting a scratch accidentally on the laptop which some buyers don't want.

I just made a purchase from the Outlet store two days ago and I saved over $200 for a comparably equipped laptop. Now getting Dell to pony up for a free copy of Windows 7 is a different matter.

I have purchased both but it is often difficult to find the exact build you want when you purchase refurbished so I prefer to go new. Also, if you play your cards just right, you can get new systems pretty close to the price of a refurb.

Because the Dell Outlet is not available in Canada otherwise I would buy from there.

Also, a lot of people don't feel like waiting days for one of those to turn up, as they get picked up very quickly. I waited for a couple weeks looking for one with my specs (it was just around the addition of the 4670) and still I was unable to find one. Some don't have the screen, some the warranty. But if its got your specs you might as well go for it and pocket those extra few hundred bucks.

-what people said above (difficult to find a config exactly the same i want)
-the main reason for me was: warranty.

There are some differences between brand new and prevously new order

Dell usually repack those order sent back by customer even it's previously new, I don't know why it work like these

For example, Dell studio xps should come with awesome packaging.

But with previously new order, it's just a refurbished box and with your accessors in it.

    So they are different

Custom config and price. It's the same reason I buy new cars and people buy mine used: because I can. :D

Previously ordered new is not necessarily priced cheaper than at Dell's web site, especially on medium to higher-end configurations.

For a $200 desktop, you probably won't find that brand new from Dell but you can find that at the outlet. For a $1,000+ desktop, you might get newer and better for about the same money if you buy new rather than old.

    As usual, YMMV.

i've looked at Dells Outlet and I don't see many bargains. Most of them have crap specs and can get better deal buying new with better warranty!

I ordered a SXPS 1340 from the outlet and saved well over $500 from anything on the Dell site (had a 20% off coupon). Even with the EPP and other discounts. I got the exact system I was looking for (specs below), but it took me waking up early to find it (always best to look at the outlet in the early morning). I ordered my brother a 1545 from there with 6 cell batt, webcam, pentium dual core, and 250GB drive for $253 after coupon. Both systems were cosmetically flawless.

On the other had, I understand why people go new too. It is really fun to order and config on the dell site.

I like the outlet because it is like a lottery sometimes you will get exactly what you are looking for for cheap other times you can't, I processed my order for a new studio xps 13, but then found a Pearl Adamo that I couldn't resist in the outlet :)

Thats not true, we have 3 1555's just bought in the last 2 months

    1. Refurbished
    2. Scratch and Dent
    3. Previously Ordered New

refurb 2 very minor lid scratches very hard to see
    Scratch and dent perfect
both of these have green stickers on bottom

Previously ordered are supposed to be canceled orders before they shipped, but are custom built so they are not "Stock" the one we got no refurb sticker ( required if sent out and returned) no stickers and was "New perfect"

so I disagree with the notion previously ordered is sent out and returned these are supposed to be refubs

Some are previously ordered new, but not all are.
Some were used for at least a month. They are refurbished laptop.

The one I ordered had wears on the bezel that occurred because it was rubbed against palm rest for a while. It also had scratches near eSATA port. (This was not scratch & dent, but it still had scratches)

Keyboard and top LCD cover seems have been replaced with new.

I have asked technical support if it is possible to send me these parts for me to replace myself and the answer was yes. :)

I have decided not to change base cover even though it has a little scratch near eSATA port since there will be no way to take sticker off clean and reapply on new cover. (and they will not send me new stickers)

To be honest, I like the idea of buying a laptop that's customized specifically to my liking.

Of course..... but some of us are saving 50 to 70% at times and that is a lot of Money for upgrades we can do ourselves ( of course screen and video cards are not self upgrades)

You have to play with the site for days sometimes and you will find cheaper then a system you can configure, Mine listed was 599 new and I paid 429 for the exact same thing, that is 170 usd cheaper.

    or 28% off retail.

I've bought three from the Outlet...all perfect. Bought two "New", both of them had massive problems. Just my experience, but I'll buy from the outlet ANY day! The only reason not to is if you want some EXACT specs (I had to compromise on something I wanted). And I do enjoy the configuration process. I had a ~2000 configured laptop, and then bought the exact same thing from the outlet for 1350. Not a bad savings. Of course, the joy of Dell is the price on everything changes every day, with different coupons, etc.

Some of the computers in the Outlet are great buys...some are priced higher than the new ones. It just requires time and patience! (which is something I lack...)

i own a studio 14z, and that doesnt have too much variability in what you can get, but i still had to wait a long time before the perfect model showed up in the outlet. (one with a p8600, 8 cell battery, and wireless n)

i imagine with some of the more configurable models, you cant get exactly what you want from the outlet.
