God dang, I have NEVER gotten a package on time from UPS. Its not like I choose to use them or anything, its just that dell uses them, newegg.com uses them, circuitcity.com uses them, all places I have made orders from. First they say that the estimated delivery date is like 2 days ahead of what dell or whatever im ordering from tells me. Then they NEVER update the stupid package progress thing until AFTER I get my package. The part that really annoys me is that when you look at the package progress they tell you that the information is up-to-date as of (insert date and time). But instead of telling you the last time it was updated they just insert the current date and time! Dang, ha, I got a little angry there, but when your waiting on a new laptop that you've been scheming for years to get, its frustrating.

It's a hit or miss when it comes to ANY delivery company, not just UPS. I actually love UPS, becuase they got my E1505 here in 2 days, when I only paid for 3-5 business days.

I think it also has a lot to do with where you live and the distrubition routes for the different companies. Because, FedEx takes forever to get to my house, but UPS is always earlier than the expected delivery date.

Yeah, true, I live in PA, and the closest dstrubition center I know of is in Nashville. Then it gets to Horsham, PA and sits there for like 2 days (don't ask me why). Were do you live? FedEx had there order at my door early for me (I've only ever gotten one chance to use them once though).

UPS has a habit of leaving a package laying around until they need to move it. Like say you paid for 3-5 day shipping and they get it to a warehouse near you like the next day. They will let it sit there for a day or two.

Ha, maybe this is just me being stupid, but it always works out that when I need or REALLY want whatever is being shipped to me, it takes even longer. Ha, as the need/want increases, so does the shipping time. This time around its me e1705 that I'm waiting on, so, yeah, I obviously really would like to get that soon.

I live in CA and UPS never takes any longer than 24 hours to deliver to my house.

UPS delivered my Dell on time, but for some of my other packages they delivered it to the wrong house  I really like Fed Ex, always on time, and always have delivered to the right place :)

I actually don't mind UPS. FedEx is who I have issue with. many times I order, and its only shipping from memphis (abou 180 miles away) and it'll still take three days to get here.

Suppose its just where you live that affects the experience.

I'm pretty much smack dab in the middle of the country so I pretty much always get packages on time, no matter the carrier - except that when UPS requires a signature, they mean it! Which was a pain the ass for a few shipments during the school year because they came 3 times (same time of the day) when I had class (every day).
Though, it seems Dell is in Waco, TX because they just sent me my free Netgear wireless router (ANYBODY WANNA BUY IT?) and it was supposed to get here tomorrow, but arrived at 11am today! Hopefully my computer will get here a day quicker than estimated. They sent it by DHL, too, so maybe the don't always use UPS, or is that something that doesn't come from the same Dell shipping station?

Well theres allways Fedex , no wait , the last package I recieved through them they gave it to the person next door and claimed it as delivered , after several days of investigation I cornered Fedex in admitting this. Then and only then I got my package. Oh how I enjoy UPS and the nice warm sight of a brown delivery truck dropping anything off. , instead of that puke white multi colored roving lazy arse delivery truck.(Dont even get me started of Fedex dropping off stuff for me and leaving it at my apartment door and not giving it to the office.)

I think Dell uses DHL for smaller (cheap) stuff, because that's how I got my surge protector.

I don't mind UPS- the tracking info is usually all right, and the packages always come on time, usually in good condition. I think we tend to be a bit harsh on shipping services, but imagine the complexity and difficulty of shipping millions of packages all over the country. Now imagine trying to do it yourself. You would excuse the delays a bit more readily. :p I asked the UPS guys how many packages they processed a day at my city, and they said 100,000. That's a lot!

Yup I wished Dell used DHL for larger packages too. DHL has 12:00 next day, which is what they used on my CDs. Too bad UPS turned my next day into a 3 day air 7:00 pm.

Yeah, dell shipped a camera I bought from them to me with dhl, the delivery status was 100% up to date and it got to me a day early. But UPS STILL has not updated there package progress and its been 3 days (it cant be sitting there for that long, thats just BS).

DHL is just for anything other than a laptop, computer, or monitor (accessories, smaller electronics, etc)

I always get my UPS stuff on time, no questions asked

I actually work at UPS, I'm the guy who loads the trucks when stuff is shipped ground. They tell us that 99% of boxes get there on time, for the most part, stuff is on time, we get in trouble if its not. To let you know how many boxes, in the 4 hr shift we do about 200,000-300,000 boxes.
I have also seen some horror stories, boxes dropped from 50 ft. and such. I will never defend UPS (I hate my job) but there are so many boxes that need to be out ASAP, that sometimes things happen.....

    My 2 cents....

It doesn't sit there but sometimes it doesn't get scaned. We scan every box by hand, and if the bar-code is damaged we dont scan it....

my experience. none of the carriers updates the status real time (except of course when it gets delivered and you don't care anymore). in a metropolitan area with established routes, they basically come at the same time every day (unless of course someone paid for early morning or immediate delivery). dell shipped my laptop to and from the repair facility using dhl. you want better service, give the delivery person a tip (if its their regular route)...

DHL is the delivery service I hate. Don't ever try to have anything overnighted by them. I tried to get a package overnighted to someone (actually it was a school group project. I had to go out of town. I finished my part of it and attempted to overnight it to the rest of my group.) something and holy Pete. It didn't get there! Turns out there overnight service isn't a garentee but it's a promise to try harder to get the package there faster. That's what a customer service rep from them told me over the phone when I was pissed off about the package not being where it had needed to go, 'overnight.'

TheRealist, one persons mistake should not reflect on a whole companies. For ONE everyone makes mistakes. TWO - You made this conclusion based on ONE bad experiance.

I have NEVER had any more problems with one than the other.

And as far as the puke-white color, you could also say the UPS has a poop brown color.

I thought since your name had something to do with reality, you would not hate a whole company due to one mistake. This is a major flaw with a lot of humans. I wish there was a cure for it, but most likely people will come a conclusion after one test.

BTW - I hope you are not a scientist. LOL_jk

I am sorry that UPS messed it up. Remember that it was not UPS fault as a whole. It was one employe that made one mistake. You have probably made mistakes similar to this, so please give him a break.

UPS does hold shipments until they HAVE to be delivered. I've had over 50% of my shipments sit in a facility for an extra day because they didn't have to deliver it until the next. In over 100, I've never had one delivered early, and about 20 have been late.

One thing Fedex does better, they send it when they have it. They don't put it on a shelf instead of delivering it Friday when it's scheduled for Monday. They go ahead and deliver it on Friday.

Never had an issue with DHL, but I only use them rarely.

As I remember I put down 2+ examples of Fedex making bad deliveries compared to UPS, I may not be a scientist but I sure do know how to do simple addition.

    TheRealist LOL IYF

multiple times Fedex refuses to drop off my packages at the office and just dumps them at my doorstep or hands them off to some other nearby apartment, and all I have is a scribbled recorded signature to go find my package.OH WHAT FUN THAT IS.

Knowing that this statement could apply to me for hating on DHL a few posts down.

I'm not saying I wouldn't use DHL again. They delivered my keyboard when it got messed up. I merely wouldn't count on them to successfully overnight something for me. -.-; It's not good buisness...

If one could only solve those bad delivery problems by moving to a nice location,
but for me running off to find Utopia is just is not me , unfortunatly at the time it was deliver and drop, job finished. Now it seems that not only after I complained but also offering this apartment management a solution Fedex likes,(very much like UPS procedure) they have a system for office drops in case no one is home,(do not leave package , do not hand off package to uknown persons.)and have office people sign for it.Therefore when I order my new Dell system , no matter who they ship it through , there seems a good chance I will be the one and only one to open that box , as it should be for us all.
