I was seriously considering a 1720 over a macbook pro untill i noticed the only matte screen available was only a 1440 resolution. I really wanted 1600 or 1920 and the only option is 1920 glossy. Is glossy the new thing? HP only makes glossy displays now wich ppl seem to love. Ive only seen a glossy screen in a bestbuy so i guess i dont have a good idea of them just yet. Anybody want to tell me what they think about the 2 screens?

well basically glossy screens give you better color contrast, while matte screens offer better viewing angles and less glares, but no color contrast. Also, for the 1720, the glossy screen is brighter, although this is not always the case. of course this comes down to personal preference as I always like the matte screen a little more, altho i can live without it. i like how on macs you can choose

Ummm... I think glossy screens have better viewing angles.

Glossy has better contrast, better viewing angles, and better perceived brightness... but there's the reflections.

I tend to like matte because it's more like looking at a piece of paper... I like dull things, what can I say. But I've never actually owned a glossy, so maybe I'd like it, I don't know.

Anyway, oh yeah, generally now business laptops have matte and "consumer" laptops have glossy. 'Cause people go in the stores and buy the ones with the bright and shiny screen. I also like how you can choose on MacBook Pro (not Macbook though).
