Been looking for a replacement for my d430 and have been considering the adamo or e4200/4300. In some cases, the prices of these models are up to 80% more expensive in canada than in the US. What gives? I expect to pay a bit of a premium in Canada but this is rediculous. Does anyone have any clue why this would be the case or does it just suck to be canadian sometimes?

Might as well just buy it off ebay and take the warranty gamble or look elsewhere.

It's a perk of being Canadian. It's not only Dell though, HP does it too. For instance, the Envy 15 in Canada is $2199, in the States, only $1299. Bah

The exchange rate difference between the Canadian dollar and the US dollar is down to 1% as of today. Any difference beyond that is gouging by Dell and HP and 1001 other companies that do business in Canada.

It's how we thank you for exporting Celine Dion.

Seriously though, it sounds like gouging to me... I really cannot think of a reason why you would need to mark up the price of a computer by almost 70% simply because it moves across a border.

Some of the price mark up is due to the different cost of running businesses in individual countries, the economies of scale in Canada is different to that of USA.

Also, some US businesses tend to view their US business operation as the most important part of their business, and they would try everything to gain home market advantage, and take market share away from their competitors. So this may include artificially deflating the price of their products, which is usually covered by using profits from their other global operations.

    agreed lol
everything here in Canada is soo damn expensive, not only computers
Weekly sales in the US is equivalent to Boxing Day sales in Canada (Boxing Day is like Black Friday except with crappier deals)
