Why won't my 1505 read DVD burned from DVR?

I have a Panasonic DVR that burns DVDs. It is the -R format.

For some reason, the DVDs that I burn (and can play via the DVR) don't show up or play on my Dell 1505.

Does the 1505 only read certain kinds of DVDs? I've tried burning the DVDs in VR mode as well as Video mode but neither work. I've tried burning onto -Rs and well as onto -RWs. No luck.

The side of my DVD/CD drive says RW DVD + rewritable but it also says DVD R/RW so I'm not sure what it is supposed to play. WHen I bought it, I thought it was supposed to play all formats.

Any ideas on what I can do? I really want to get a lot of my video camera footage that is on my DVR onto my computer.

    Thanks in advance,

It could be DRM. Not sure, but just a thought. That's technology for ya.

The burner is fine. I just discovered I can actually view the dvd using a program that came with my Dell called Cyberlink PowerDVD. It acts just like a normal DVD player and it played the video. But Media Player nor Media Center play it which I don't understand.

What I basically want to do is get this 2 minute DVD onto my laptop and save it as an .mpg or similar viewable file.

DRM is Digital Rights Management aka NRY - No Rights for You . It is related to copy protection and basically tells you what you can and can't do with your digital files. It's possible that the dvd from the DVR burns for backup, but can only be viewed on the DVR. Just speculation, but possible. Do this DVR have HDCP? (High bandwidth Digital Content Protection) If so, then those dvd's probably will not work on the computer.

See my above reply. The DVD does play on my laptop.. but only using the PowerDVD program that came with the laptop.

Oh I see. You posted that while I was posting my response, my apologies. I believe that WMP needs dvd codecs to play the dvd in WMP. Should be able to download them, I don't know where because I use the HD and the 360 to watch my dvd's. Maybe someone can post?!?!

try different media. Sometimes drives can be picky when using -R media.
