I had ordered a Vostro 1200 on 20th Dec and till yesterday the order tracking website showed it as "work in progress". Today I get this:

    Order Number: xxx5994
    Customer Number: xxx010
    Current Status: Canceled

Any idea why this would happen? My card has already been charged and I need this laptop fast.

You sure it's 1200? I don't see it on Dell website yet. If it was cancelled they won't charge it so, I wouldn't lose sleep over it. But I would check for few months just in case.

The Dell Vostro 1200 is not available on the US Dell website but is availabe on the Dell's India website(I believe the OP is located in India). Your best bet would to contact dells CS and see what they say.

    Happy Holidays.

Yup, the 1200 is available on the India website [and also Aus and Far East].

I am not worried about them not charging it - I dont want delays as I am planning a trip in Jan and this was for that. My current laptop is a 3kg monstor which is a pain to lug.

Being Christmas I cant get anyone at Dell. I have a feeling this is likely to be a long uphill struggle. Dell had promised delivery by 2nd Jan.

I was asking as this is a newly launched product and whether anyone here has any similar experiences with new products. Maybe the assembly parts are not yet ready and it may be the cause of long delays and thats why they might have canceled? OTOH I would expect them at least to e-mail me.

On some photo forums I read horror stories about Dell delivery schedules and this has me worried.

    Reply from Dell:

    Dear Sir,

Since, Vostro 1200 is a New Series it was not ready to download last week. Though your order got downloaded we had to cancel it again on Friday and new order has been uploaded on Monday. You will be getting a new order No by tomorrow afternoon. Thereafter you can check your order status.

    Thanks and Regards

    My reply to Dell:

    Hi,

Just saw this mail. All this is fine but I hope you guys stick to your 02/01/2008 delivery date. As I said I am traveling to Europe for a long trip by 10/01/2008 and if this is not likely to come in time I would likely cancel and order a Fujitsu/Compac/Vaio. I have shortlisted one from each. On the other hand this time I really would like to try Dell so I am hoping you can deliver on your promise.

    Regards,

    Deepak

    Hi Deepak,

I'll be waiting for your feedback on Vostro 1200. How much did you pay in Indian currency? Around Rs. 42-43K?

    Pls update.

    Thanks.

Yikes sounds crazy but on the upside you will still get your order, wait times with Dell blows but they do sell a ton.

    Hi,

It was 40K but I asked for following upgrades:

    1 to 2 GB RAM
DVD writer instead of combo [they actuall sell combo drives these days?]
    1.6 Ghz instead of 1.4

Total came to 45 but I actually bargained on the phone [thanks to some suggestions here and they gave it for 42.5.
