I called dell so I can have the complete service on my system but they tell me that since I live in Florida they won’t give me the complete service so I only have the normal warranty.

    How can I insure a 3k laptop?

Well it is dell policy not to offer Complete Care in Florida since the insurance company that handles the complete care issues for dell doesn't want to mess up with all the natural disasters that Florida might have.... who knows...

You can always try a third party insurance agency. Google for laptop insurance and I'm sure you'll find more than one company willing to offer you some insurance.

    homeowners insurance may cover it.

my bass player dropped his laptop (some time ago) that he had recently (at the time) acquired for $2000. The lcd broke and was a $1300 repair. His homeowner's insurance covered it. He told them he slipped on a step while going up his stairs from the ground floor to the upper floor (where the main part of the home is) and this caused him to drop the laptop.

They paid him for it and he says his premium shows no changes since the claim.

Dell sucks for not offering accidental coverage in FL. They offer it in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi and Alabama, all of which had hurricane damages of record numbers in 2005. Oh well. I'm a Florida resident myself. If I can't afford to replace it on my own, I don't purchase it. Hence, I purchased the XPS 140.

You can set up a rider on your Home insurance policy. It is significantly less than paying a manufacturer for insurance.
