    Hello my friends .
This is my first problem since i purchased my M1210
Yesterday i upgraded from the Dell support site the driver for the intel (R) PRO
Wireless 3945 ABG Network connection .It was recommended and it gave support for intel wireless WIFI link 4965AGN . Since i installed the driver
everything works fine but the wifi catcher is disable .
After the installation i read the readme file and dell said the the wifi catcher is not compatible with the new driver version 11.1.86 supporting link 4965agn
and adding wifi proteched setup ( Whats this ??) I can't find and configure it anywhere .
In the Dell quick set menu is still existing the wifi catcher configuration option but it says that it is not enable .
I went into Bios and enabled the wifi catcher option again but nothing .
The wifi catcher still is not available .
Can anyone give me an advice .
How is it possible doing an driver upgrade and losing other options ?
    Best regards
    fritz40

The wifi catcher is the button on the left side of the keyboard and it catches wireless networks without having opened the laptop.
    I don't understand the word iffy .
Since upgrading the drivers my wireless network connection is more stable and i don't lose connection even for a moment . But as i said i lost the capability to have the wifi catcher working .

I did the upgrade a couple of weeks ago and had the same problem. I was able to connect to the internet but the wifi catcher was nowhere to be found. I reinstalled the driver and now everything works flawlessly.

I woulld also like an answer to this because I am experiencing the EXACT same problem since upgrading to Vista Ultimate a few days ago, the Wi-Fi button remains disabled in the Dell Quickset Wi-Fi catcher. I tried installing both the Intel Proset software version 11 and also tried the drivers only version but still no go...sometimes I'm even getting the message that the install failed because it does not recognize the OS??? even though the wireless connection itself is working fine since I am able to surf the net and obviously post on this message board.

I reinstalled the upgrade driver from the Dell Website. FYI, I'm running XP not Vista.

OK, first of all, anyone with an Inspiron laptop does not have Wi-fi catcher. Wi-fi catcher is a little switch on the side of the laptop that allows you to turn the wireless on and off, but it also allows you to switch it into a different position where it will check for nearby wireless hotspots even when the laptop is off. It is currently available only on Latitudes, the Precision M65, and the XPS M1210.

That out of the way, if the driver says it's incompatible, then there's not much you can do. There really isn't a huge reason to upgrade to the new driver, since mainly it just adds support for the new Intel wireless card, which is only available on Latitudes starting yesterday. So if you want the wifi catcher to work, you can either downgrade your drivers and go back to the old ones, or you can deal with the stability of the new drivers and not have wifi catcher. Either that, or just wait for the next batch of drivers.

I was about to ask that, because the catcher has never worked for me. I got the old one off Intel's site, because I wanted the driver only, not the software.

Thank you Notebook_ftw . I will keep the new driver because the stability is perfect . I don't lose connection even when i am at the edge of my network and
i can download from my pc with 36 Mbps all the time and for hours without losing a bit .I can live without the wi-fi catcher until there come out a correction
    from dell.Thanks .
