Hi I want to purchase the new Inspiron 1420 laptop but I'm hesitating between these 2 wireless cards (available canadian options ):

    -Intel J 3945 802.11 a/g Mini-card

    or

    -Dell Wireless 1505 Wireless-N Mini-card

    Wich one should I get?

As far as I've used N then its pretty much been a bad experience. But this what like 6 months ago. It might have improved since then. I haven't ever used this card though.

There is no reason not to get the N Card unless you are installing linux for say the very first time and don't knw how to deal with ndiswrapper and such.

    Well, price too.

Basically, the N will have better range, and the Intel card will have better Linux compatibility.

Go with N...when combined with an N router, it greatly enhances the signal over the old G signal laptops. That means your laptop works from farther away and the speed should be enhanced as well. Given the cost to obtain the N card isn't that much higher, it's worth the upgrade. It sort of gives you some future proofing too.

After doing alot of searching and reading on this forum, I choose the Intel Mini-card.
