    Hello all,
My first post. I recently purchased an Inspiron 9300 and been very satisfied overall. I was wondering if their is a conflict when playing a widescreen movie(dvd) on the laptop. I can play fullscreen movies(dvd) w/out a problem but when playing widescreen my drive does not even recognize the dvd is in the tray. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

It is more likely a problem with the optical drive, not the screen. You might want to update your firmware or ide drivers. Could try uninstalling it device manager and letting windows find it again when re-booting. If those fail, you should contact Dell support.

Seems that it was an optical drive problem. I recieved a new optical drive from Dell. The original optical drive was a Samsung and the new one that was sent was a Sony(which I asked for them to send). I put both DVD's that was not playable on the Samsung and both works on the Sony. Thanks for all your help.

NO NO NO, its not a problem with your computer, its a problem with the software you are using to play the dvd movies. did you get the nvidia 6800 go card? stop by nvidia and get the program called "nvdvd" plays movies great. 99.999 percent of the problems with playing dvd movies on yourlaptop are not hardware problems at all, they are SOFTWARE problems, try using another player to play your dvd movies.

ON a side note though, many people who got sony dvd drives complain about them and seem to have alot of problems with those drives.
