    The vostro line does have a stern look... My wife has a TP X60, again a stern look but solid system.

    In the end it's very simple... happy wife, happy life.

    The vostro is intentionally ugly. It's to scare off normal consumers, so your wife has a point.

    It's a preference thing I guess. I own a T60 and i'm not crazy about their looks. I only bought it because of it's reputation and that part doesn't disappoint. I like more rounded objects such as the HP line etc. So to me I like the original Vostro line. Whereas you said and has been noted by others the new Vostro's look more like Thinkpads.

    No biggie I still have a Vostro 1500 and 1700.
