Hi I broke something on my wificatcher, now it doesnt hold in place, it just shifts around. I opened the system up, and I can see that the switch is no longer connected to the motherboard. Does anyone know how exactly the switch connects to the motherboard? I can find anything that broke off?

:confused2: The WiFi catcher switch is soldered to the motherboard and the slider switch on the outside of the laptop merely fits over the small metal and black plastic switch. How exactly have to broken this because if the switch has seperated from the motherboard, you can't fix it yourself. If the slider has merely come off, then it should fit right back onto the end of the switch.

Can you post an image on the issue?

I have the laptop put together at the moment, so Ill try to explain this in detail. Basically the wifi catcher switch is still soldered onto the motherboard. The slider switch is not connected to this part anymore. I was using it once and I accidentally applied to much force and now the slider just slides around loosely. So I opened the laptop up and I can not see how the slider switch connects the wifi catcher thats soldered onto the motherboard.

Im assuming that there is a piece that comes out of the motherboard switch that goes into the slider switch right? Which means I most probably snapped that piece off :(

If there isn't a small black plastic piece for the slider to fit over, have a look at the back of the slider and see if it has snapped off and is still attached to that.

You will unfortunately need a new motherboard anyway, so I would call Dell and get them to haul one out with a tech attached. Shouldn't take him more than an hour or so to rebuild the laptop (transfer over wireless cards etc. etc.)

As the switch shouldn't break off like that I wouldn't class this as an accident. I would class it as a faulty switch module.
