I have been using my Vostro 1500 for a month or so now at home with wireless. When I first connect to my home network (D-Link DGL-4300) it usually connects at 54Mbps with "very good" connection. I'm probably about 25 feet (direct line) from it one floor above.
Although as I use it the signal slowly "degrades" to 48 Mbps to 36 to 24, and eventually to 11 with a "good" or "very good" signal.
What could contribute to this signal degradation? Is there a way to fix it? Should I consider a signal booster or enhancer - is there a specific product anyone can recommend?
I have the latest firmware for my router and have reset it a few times (hard reset - unplug, wait 30 mins - plug back in) and still same thing. I believe I have the latest drivers from Dell.

What wireless card do you have in your notebook? A DELL one or an INTEL one? If its an Intel one, download the latest drivers from the Intel site and give it another go!
And to be honest, unless your broadband connection is 5Mbps or quicker you prob wont notice a difference! Cos your broadband connection will the the bottle neck limiting your speed!
So even if your connected at 54Mbps (more like 45Mbps or less cos of data being lost when transmitted) and your broadband connection is only 2Mbps, it wont be any quicker than if you are connected at 11Mbps (prob about 7Mbps or less in reality). -
Thanks.
I have the Dell Wireless 1390 card and already have the latest drivers installed.
I have 8Mbps cable internet which still is less than the 11Mbps. But for home server files, it is a pain.
