Will Dell do anything about any of this?

    Hi,

I've been having some major (in my opinion) issues with my Inspiron 9300 that is 2.5 years old now. I'm still under the 3 yr warrenty that I purchased when I bought it from dell.

    The issues I'm having:

Headphones don't work in the headphone jack. Only the right headphone will work when plugged into the jack, I've tried multiple headphones that work fine in other products so its not the headphones.

Some kind of hardware delay when playing music/video. This happens under both Windows XP, a fresh reformat of windows xp, and fedora core 6. When I play music / video every 3-4 seconds there will be a noticeable pause in whats playing. With music it is bearable, but I hate watching anything on my laptop because of it.

Battery 100% dead. I received a new battery from dell a while back when they issued the battery recall. It has since stopped holding a charge. I'm not exactly sure how long I've had it but I'm sure someone here knows when they issued the recall.

Extremely loud fan. It gets really loud and is constantly changing its speed when it runs. All I hear is whiirrrrrrr whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr whiiirrrrrrrrrrrrr. Its too loud to sleep with the laptop on.

LCD screen shuts off on occasion and I'm forced to do a hard reboot when it does. It happens under both XP and fedora core so I think its hardware related.

What will Dell be able to do for me in fixing this stuff?

    Thanks

Send it in under warranty and get it repaired.

As long as its hardware related and its under warranty, they'll fix it....
You'll have to buy a new battery, Dell will only replace it within a year.

It depends if you still are under warranty, what kind of warranty it is, and if it excludes certain problems.

I think the headphones, media playback, and screen shutoff are covered, but they'll probaly foist a long troubleshooting list on you before they send a mailer. The battery is almost certainly not covered.

Is it possible to get it fixed without having to send it in? I really can't be without a computer for longer than a couple days.

Do you have the kind of warranty where they'll send someone out to your house to fix it?

I'll have to check with my parents, they are the ones who bought it for me.

Unless you have in-home warranty coverage, you'll have to send it in.

    Hello,

My name is Mike, I’m a Technical Analyst at Dell corporate headquarters in Round Rock, TX. I’m part of an internet outreach team developed to interact with the online community regarding technical questions and issues that customers face with Dell products. I read your question and wanted to offer some help.

You can check the warranty status and type here. If it is covered by the next business day warranty then we will send someone to your home to replace whatever parts need it. Off hand, from what you’ve described, it sounds like it’s going to need a motherboard replacement. You will, of course, have to call in to technical support or contact them via chat to troubleshoot before anything can be sent out, but if you’re still covered under warranty this shouldn't take too long.

The battery recall was initiated in August of 2006. The batteries carry a 1 year warranty for defects. Hopefully this will get everything taken care of for you, but if you need any further assistance please let me know and I’ll be glad to help where I can.

    Thank you,

    Mike
