If Dell releases Penryn before an order you placed ships do you automatically get upgraded to the new processor like Apple does? Do sales and promotions effect this at all?

More than likely not. You may have to wait until you recieve it, then call them and return it and place a new order. :(
You might be able to call them and get them to change the order, *if* it's not shipped before penryn is released by them.

Nope. Only way to change an order once it's placed is to cancel and re-order. Period!
