Just wondering, because I hate the heat. I used to have Compaq presario X6000 with p4 processor and Ati x600 and it was getting VERY hot when playing games, even overheating at times. I am just wondering if the Ati x1400 is producing a lot more heat than GMA 950. And then will the E1405 run a lot cooler than E1505? Thanks.

if you have identical systems and one has a dedicated card (the 1400) and one has an integrated card (gma), then, all things being equal, the integrated card will run cooler.

but you don't want it to play games

Why should the e1405 run cooler than e1505? I would be expecting E1505 to be cooler because it's bigger than E1405. The X1400 will generate more heat than the gma950, that's for sure, but I would think twice to say you would definitely notice the difference. What burns in your Compaq more than the X600 is the P4 CPU. You can't seriously compare P4 to PM/Core Duo in the matter of generating heat. E1505/E1405 with ATI X9999 (if such would exist) would be incomparable cooler than your Compaq.

I can say that my overclocked PM 750 heats my GMA 900, and my idle x700 heats my PM 750! :)

    Cheers,

I used to have a Compaq V2000, which had the onboard ATI x200 video, and my left hand used to get very warm on the handrest. I'd have to wipe it off on my leg every few minutes because it got so sweaty while I was playing Counter-Strike.

With my 6400 with the x1400 video, I haven't noticed my hand getting hot at all after an hour of solid gaming; the handrest doesn't even seem noticeably warmer.

The Compaq was a 14.1 widescreen, smaller than my Dell's 15.4", so that may be part of the reason. Also, this Dell has much better venting than my Compaq did.

Thanks guys, I just wanted to make sure I will not be buying a *fireplace*. I am not a huge gamer but a dedicated graphics is always a good thing if it is not getting too hot. And I guess x1400 is a good way to go - not so much power, not much heat. And then from the reviews and comments I have read it looks like E1505 is a much better built than E1405 (mostly screen-wise) at almost the same price, so I guess ill get used to bigger size.

if you are going to be using your computer for gaming, why not get a desktop? it's cheaper and much better for gaming than a notebook

My E1505 has an X1400, and I have not noticed much heat at all, other than some warmness on the underside and towards the back after extended gaming sessions with FEAR and Battlefield 2. Hope this helped you make a decision.

Thanks guys. I won't be using this notebook for that intensive gaming anyways, so I guess I should be fine.

True , but I hate the *attachments* to my notebooks. And still from what I have read, it appears that the E1505 should run 2-3 times cooler than my previous Compaq x6000, which will be such a relief. But lets not forget that the Compaq has P4 Desktop processor and ATI x600 in it (which I think runs hotter than x1400)

CoD2 heats up the x1400 on my e1505 pretty darn good during extended game play. Getting a cooler is a good advice.

pinoy99 have you ever checked what is the average temp during extended gaming. Also is the vent getting very noisy in this situation? And have you tried HL2 - I want to compare to my Compaq X6000 ,which was getting so hot sometimes when playing HL2 and was even crashing and rebooting itself.
