I read that the D620 was supposed to be offered with an option for graphics card but right now I can only order them with the integrated intel video card which would be fine for many things but probably far less than ideal for the full vista interface.

Any word if they will offer it with a video option and if so, when?

    Thanks

I thought they did. I could be wrong and if they do offer it'll probably be the Nvidia Quadro series and not the GeForce Gos or ATI X1000 series .

Yes, it was originally offered with discrete graphics. The day I called our rep to place an order, he told me that the card was removed from the configurable options that day due to some type of compatibility problems. Our rep said it would probably only be a few days, but then called back to say it wasn't supposed to be resolved until July. Bummer :(

the D620 with a dedicated card would be an excellent notebook. :)

Holy **** that is a ways off. It is nice that your rep actually got some info, mine rarely gives me info but has me call someone who is just as clueless as he is. Any guess if they are going to let you put one in after the fact? Any guess on if they are going to drop the price because it doesn't have the card or supply you with a coupon for the card?

    Thanks

Would that be possible to 'add' the card like that? There has to be more than that, right?

No, no discrete ever offered. The latitude line is a business line. Not meant for graphics intensive programs. It was never offered with discrete. It will be (when the backorder issue is resolved) offered with 2 different types of integrated video. The intel integrated and an nvidia integrated. There was never a discrete option and no you can't 'add' a card after you've bought a laptop with integrated video.

I've been thinking about buying a D620, and I called Dell this afternoon and spoke with a tech guy. He said that they originally planned to offer the same dedicated graphics that are available in the D820 (NVidia stuff), but orders got messed up or something. He had no idea of any plans to change the current offerings, but if you look really carefully on the Dell website, you can find an explanation of how the dedicated card would work on the D620.

It was offered with a discrete graphics card. And then the card was removed from the options a little sooner than it was released. The old D810 was being offered with discrete graphics card. Yes, it is a business notebook. But this does not mean it will not be offered with a discrete graphics solution. Take IBM thinkpad T series for instance. T60 is offered with either ATI X1300 or X1400. As a matter of fact, DELL rep.s told that D620 and D820 would be offered with dicrete graphics solutions in their presentations several times.

I did get a reply that they cannot be upgraded. I don't have a date on if they will release it with an upgraded video card.

    Hi all,

I ordered the d620 in Mar 30th, with the Nvidia Quatro mVS 110. It will be delayed shipping until may 30th, but I will get the video card I wanted, according to the Dell customer care and sales rep.

As he explained it, they had a volume problem with Nvida, hence the did a first run in small quanities, then Nvidia couldn't deliver for manufacturing in that larger than expected volume, hence they pulled the option, because it couldn't be garanteed to be there for manufacturing.

    I just hope it wasn't a technical issue ! I'll post a review once I get it.

IMO this graphics are is what makes it a good laptop, since the equivalent Sony is $ 3,000.

Has anyone ACTUALLY recieved a d620 with the nvidia yet ?

    cheers,

    JBK

Is it just the quatro which is going to be offered or will a lower end consumer 3d card be offered?
