Crucial says yes but I always find they are a coin flip.
Thx

No Intel laptop can run 800MHz RAM without downclocking back to 667MHz. Get either PC5300 or 6400, whichever is cheaper.
-
No kiddin? I thought my T7500 was 800mhz though.
-
The two are interchangeable. Yes, the PC2-6400 RAM will work, but you'll likely be paying more for the higher-speed-certified memory without being able to take advantage of it. As Greg said, it'll just run at 667Mhz anyway, so get whichever is cheapest.
Edit - The memory and processor run at different bus speeds. -
Great, thanks to both of your quick expertise!

Yep...there is no point in getting DDR2-800 unless its cheaper since it will downclock becuase of a chipset limitation.
THe only intel laptop I know of that can use DDR-800 is the Clevo D901c since it uses desktop chipset(it uses desktop processors). I believe some AMD laptop can use DDR2-800 ram though.
Also check out the ram deals thread(check the first and last couple of pages) for great deals on ram. -
ah good link! I was wondering if you could go 3rd party away from Dell's support hardware.
links seem to be US shops, but once I find a name, I can see if a UK seller does it I suppose. -
Just FYI with Intel laptops (and maybe AMD to an extent): the processor FSB is 800MHz as previously mentioned, but the RAM bus speed is 667MHz.
-
At Crucial UK at the mo you can get 4GB DDRII 667MHz for around £53 (saving 20% - £11) Seriously considering it. Best price I've found - most kits are £60-£70.

I just bought 4 (2x2) GB of OCZ 800Mhz DDR and it runs perfectly in my new M1330....The store I went too had 667Mhz ram as well, but for the same price ($99CDN) as the 800Mhz, and a less quality brand, so I went with the OCZ.
-
so the 800mhz runs fine on a intel chip?
-
It'll run - but at 667MHz.
Will the XPS run PC2-6400 Ram?
