Will the Vostro 1400 with specs below run Vista Home Premium well?

    Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6ghx, 800 MHz, 2MB Cache)
    1gb Ram
    8400M GS
    14" screen

Also the Dell rep offered me any Vista OS of my choice so should i get Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate?

Consider getting 2 GB of ram. That's about it though.

I also recommend getting 2gb with vista. You can upgrade the you yourself after you buy the laptop which should be cheaper. Look at the ram deals thread for great prices on ram.

Here his a table that compares the features in the different version of vista.

See if you like/need anything in the ultimate edition.

Will the Vosta Ultimate use more battaery power or make the laptop produce more heat? Also does Vista Ultimate need more RAM than Vista Home Premium?

Home Premium and Ultimate does take up more HD space and more RAM
