I can't recall what computer I had it on, but I did have it running. HAd to disable Driver signature *something, something*. There is a little program somewhere for disabling it. If I find it later I will repost. I know you can restart and press F8. Then choose disable driver signature........

The driver signature thing might only be an issue with 64-bit flavors of 7. The more pressing problem (I'd think) is that i8kfangui won't work (as in it won't control the fans) with Inspirons newer than the 1525 (or equivalently aged systems).

^^^I believe you are right about the 64 bit. I've had it working on an XPS M1730. But it still is as old as a 1525 or so. Not sure about the newer models...........

Thanks for the info. Can any on you recommend a fan control program that will work on my 1545? I have tried Speedfan, however I am not happy with it.

I have a 1545. Might break it out and see if I can find anything I like. But like you-I always used I8KfanGUI or speedfan. I know HWiNFO, HWiNFO32 & HWiNFO64 - Hardware Information and Analysis Tools has a fan control option. I'll try it out and post back.

Well....tinkered with HWinfo and no go there. Fan control works on my M18x with it, but I guess Dell locked down the fans on the 1545

As far as I know there is no fan control software that works consistently - if at all - with newer Dells. I looked into it long and hard for my E6400 several times. Part of the reason I'm currently on the ThinkPad bandwagon.

Thanks Commander and Pmassey. My plan is to upgrade my cpu to T9900, 35 watts TDP. Looks like the motherboard will support 35 watts. What do you guys think??

No reason it shouldn't work, but given that the cooling system of the 1545 isn't spectacular, I wouldn't exactly recommend it. Maybe settle for 25W P-Series?

Yea, I thought so too until I looked up the specs on the Celeron 900 cpu in my current configuration and its TDP is also 35 watts!!

What he said. Mine doesn't get too hot, but the only thing I use it for is browsing. I do all my heavy stuff on my M18.
