    Hey there!

I take it that your ATI update is getting stuck at something like "enumerating the what-nots" or some random garbage. I had the same problem. The solution is really simple.

    1. Remove all previous drivers and software
    2. Download the install package (I think they're at 9.8beta now..)
    3. Run the package, when it asks where to extract everything DON'T use the ATI folder. Call it aything other than ATI. I called it "NEW ATI".
    4. Run Mobility Modder on driver folder. (this is required anytime you want to update the GPU drivers)
    5. Run the setup program, when it asks where to install the files, again don't put it in the ATI folder, call it something else.

Now when I went from the stock Win7 drivers to 9.7 beta, I had to follow these steps. But lastnight I updated to 9.8beta and they went just fine.

    Good luck!

abt where to install the package from...shud I do it from Dell Support or from the ATI website...I have heard tht Dell Laptops dont support the versions downloaded from the ATI website?...I had been using the version given and updated by dell when on vista...

The drivers off Dell's support site are for Vista, and though they'll probably work just fine there are newer, and W7-specific drivers on the ATI website.

It gets a little complicated because Dell demands that all driver updates must be done through them, but GPU drivers are updated constantly and its impossible for Dell to keep up. So if you download the 4000-series drivers from the ATI website, it says the 4570 is unsupported.

The solution is to use Mobility Modder. It takes the drivers from ATI and unlocks the support we need.

Thats the link to Mobility Modder right there. There are more detailed instructions on the site.

I hadn't actually messed around with and of the 3D settings but I just tried it out and yes, mine is REALLY laggy, the dialogues are basically useless.

EDIT: I was just fiddling with it and switched it over to Basic mode, then back to Advanced and it worked fine... I have no idea why but it worked for me.

The only problem I've had thats bugging me is the audio, the IDT drivers for Vista x64 won't install under Windows 7. And that means you can't use the SRS Premium features. But I didn't really care about those. The only one I cared about was being able to re-map the jacks to output 5.1 audio.

There haven't been any programs I've used that game me any issues... but the only thing I've installed so far was The Orange Box (HalfLife 2, Team Fortress, etc.).

Yeah he said it fixed itself. I don't remember if mine was working before I reinstalled the drivers. I installed them anyway. The Dell/Creative cam software works fine too.

@terbo- yup...I had the same prob witht the IDT drivers...anyway its fine...
I installed 'prototype' which wasnt working very smoothly before I did the ATI upgrade using mobility modder, but now its pretty good..
I am not able to install the drivers for the Intel 5300..its says this OS is not supported...though wifi gets connected and am using it right now...

@sharpnd- after a restart the webcam started working...magic!!

You're right, Dell's drivers for the 5100 I have didn't work either, but I didn't bother fighting with it because the wireless works just fine haha.

The Intel site doesn't have dedicated Win7 drivers either...

What I think is weird is that the Studio XPS 16 uses the same audio drivers as the 1555, and it has Win7 drivers available for the sound card. And it lists the 1555 as being supported. But they don't work!

I tried installing the IDT drivers first and though it said something like not compatible, the windows notification menu said ur drivers have been installed correctly and funnily enuf the IDT control panel opens...and then when I tried installing the Creative drivers(for the SRS sound goodies), while installing the program disappears and suddenly there is no audio device present, even the windows volume notifier shows a big red cross...
and then again I install the 'incompatible' IDT driver and its back....wonder wts going on.. :p..
