My grand plan at the moment is to buy a 1420 and immediately wipe the drive and start fresh with Win XP Pro x64. Is there anything I should know before I place my order for the laptop? What functionality of the notebook can I expect to lose permanently if I totally purge the drive (like media buttons, etc). I've read there's a tiny BIOS partition - I assume I would need to leave that untouched?

This would be my first time setting up a laptop, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I might be taking this option as well and would be interested to see how it turns out.

Just make sure you have all of the drivers you need burned to a CD or on a USB drive. Once Windows is installed, proceed to install all of the drivers from the CD. I don't know if it is an issue or not, but if they don't sell the 1420 with XP x64, then there is a chance that not all of the drivers needed will be available.

Plus you will need to make raid or SATA drivers on the disk using nlite this will make it so you can see your hard drive before you can install windows xp 64bit

Great - I appreciate all the response. Unfortunately, I still can't make myself stop oggling the 1330/Asus G2S....
