    Hi all,

Made the mistake and called Dell Tech Support, what a waste of an hour!

So heres my problem, hopefully someone on here can help.

I've just installed Windows 7, 64 bit on my studio 1555. Most everything is fine, except my bluetooth doesn't work. I initially installed the Vista 64 bit drivers, as there are no Windows 7 drivers on the dell website. They worked O...K, they found my mouse, however i could not get them to pair. Decided to uninstall the driver/widcomm software and try again, however now i can't even install the driver.

Every time i run the installer it tells me to enable the bluetooth by pressing Fn+F2. This doesn't help as it never recognises the bluetooth as being switched on. Trying to install the driver through windows brings up "unknown device". Updating the driver in device manager by pointing directly to the bluetooth 370 driver doesn't really help, as it installs but it doesn't work. Gives the error "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

Has anyone out there successfully updated to Win 7 with a studio 1555 and bluetooth 370? Anyone got any ideas on what i can do to fix this? Bluetooth in BIOS is enabled too.

Dell said that i'll have to wait for official Windows 7 drivers for my bluetooth, but having run Win 7 RC for the past 6 months with the vista drivers, it doesn't really make sense that they shouldn't work now.

    Thanks Heaps,
    JB

Well no surprise, but the "official" bluetooth 370 drivers don't make a lick of difference here. my guess is a hardware problem??? i don't know... back on the phone to dell i think.

Todd, i'll let ya know what happens, but i reckon we both might have faulty bluetooth cards...

hey wellyman, thanks for the link, however even with those drivers my problem persisted.

I was on the phone to dell for over an hour today, after going through all the usual stuff, the technician said that my notebook was not supported for windows 7, and therefore suggested i had to wipe my windows 7 installation and revert back to vista to "check" that it was infact a hardware issue and not a software issue... and initially said that they would not send a hardware replacement until i did so.
I argued with him (as i didn't care for the hours spent backing up and reinstalling vista which i just didn't agree with) and showed him the DELL website that says my 1555 is supported, the fact that the new win7 drivers were available under my service tag, and the fact that i have been running windows 7 since the RC was available and haven't had any real problems with it until now.

Anyway the hardware is to be replaced, and i'm positive that will fix the issue. Just to be sure i jammed a hdd in with vista already installed, and surprise surprise the bluetooth device did not work.

Anyway i suspect it was just a coincidence that my bluetooth card died shortly after install the official Windows 7.

Todd, i suggest that if it's the exact same problem i quoted, then you too may have a faulty bluetooth card, i'll post back when/if my bluetooth problem is resolved with a hardware replacement...

As to the error "Code 10", I 've too caught this issue while installing the driver for Sierra Wireless 3G HSDPA (MC8775) mini-card into my Inspiron 1525 both in Windows Vista x86 and Windows 7 x64. However I got the card in brand new condition from the seller.

BTW, my laptop is not officially supported by Dell in Windows 7. So I had to dig for info about some new Inspiron models with official support for Windows 7 and took some similar drivers from those models and even Bluetooth stack from Lenovo S10-2's Windows 7 upgrade files.

So this way i came out of issue position for Windows 7 upgrade.

Glad I'm not the only one having all sorts of bluetooth/studio 15xx/windows 7 issues... I'll try these latest drivers posted by Todd, but I've already tried like 3 or 4 different sets of win 7 drivers for this bluetooth card and I continue to have the same annoying issues... starting to think bluetooth wasn't worth it.

    *grumbles*

haha, it's funny you say that, because i thought paying the extra $20 for internal bluetooth would save a lot of hassle...how wrong i was.
i will try these new drivers, however i don't like my luck, i've tried approximately 5 different sets of drivers now, all come up with the same issue of "Turn on bluetooth via Fn+F2" it does nothing...

Actually one thing you guys may be able to help me with, in device manager, does the bluetooth come under the group "bluetooth radio"?

    Thanks heaps!

    Hey everyone,
just to let ya's know exactly what the problem was.....hardware fault, as suspected. The bluetooth mini card had stuffed up, popped the new one in everything was fine. So i suggest anyone who has the same problem as me, ring dell and get them to replace ur card.

Thanks to everyone for your help!

Hi Guys. I have had the same problem with Bluetooth in windows 7 professional.
I used to use my stereo headset which works with bluetooth.
when I have installed windows 7 64 bit something weird happened. I install the driver from dell website. It works for a while (1 hour or less) then suddenly the minicard bluetooth removed from device manager and no hardware is recognizable by windows for bluetooth  .

I have solved this problem recently :D .
    How?

I installed the Vista driver from the original DVD that was in the package when I purchased the Dell 1555.

    Now it is working.
this is something to do with the software "WIDCOMM Bluetooth".

My version is "WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 6.1.0.4402".

If you dont have this version on your original DVD send new post. I will share it here.

If you would share the "WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 6.1.0.4402" that would be awesome!

Use 6.2.1.1100 from dell website, it also fixes the problem.
