    I installed Windows 7 64 bit on my e1705.
    Apparently everything seems working.
But on the Device manager, one thing is not recognized.
    It is shown as:
Other devices - Base System Device.
Its location is PCI bus 3, device 1, function 3.
    What could this be?

Well, after checking other working devices,
I found PCI bus 3, device 1 is Ricoh controller for card reader and 1394.
Function 3 is possibly memory stick reader.
Because Dell website does not have 64 bit driver for Ricoh controller,
I don't know how to find a driver for it.
    Does anyone know?

Try the Vista 64bit driver from a similar-aged system with a Ricoh card reader and 1394? Maybe an M1330?

    Thanks for the reply.
I installed M1710 - which may be the closest one - vista 64 driver.
    It is recognized.

Windows Update has a Windows 7 specific driver.

When I tried to install some of the Studio XPS drivers on my E1705 they didn't work, so after seeing your recommendation I checked into it again. Last time I hadn't noticed only 64-bit drivers were being offered, and I'm running 32-bit. I learned long ago that in order to get drivers for your hardware from Dell you have to look at drivers being offered for other models because Dell doesn't bother to update the software packages offered except for a select machine, while the drivers are usually signed and fully compatible with other models and other computers. Being that they are digitalled signed and WHQL compliant you can be sure then that it has been tested as compatible with your hardware, otherwise Microsoft wouldn't allow them to inlcude the hardware IDs/etc of incompatible hardware. Sometimes other systems even get features enabled that other systems don't, another benefit.

Yup. I had the same issue with the Ricoh memory card reader. Windows update found the driver and fixed it after a couple of shut down cycles.

How much RAM do you have installed on your E1705?
