    Hi,

I have a Dell Windows 7 Ultimate disk in original sealed packaging. If I wipe my Dell laptop hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate from the Dell disk will I need a CoA or will the Product ID installed by default in the process be OK for online activation.

The Dell Windows 7 Ultimate disk was not the disk shipped with the machine, that was a Vista Business disk.

You need to input your own genuine Windows 7 Ultimate product key. You cannot use the current one on the system.

You shouldn't have to do anything. The Dell Disk is BIOS locked, and thus will work on you Dell Notebook just fine.

You won't even have to enter a license key.

joelkrause57 is correct. You will need a key for Windows 7 Ultimate. Your BIOS only knows the key for Vista Business since that is what your computer was shipped with. See this for more info: System Locked Preinstallation.

    Thx for the feedback.

I have sorted it all out now, I unlocked the BIOS and the install proceeded OK.
