Anybody yet tried installing Windows 7 RC on Studio 15, I am thinking of doing an upgrade rather than an seperate install. Anybody done this or if just installed were there any stability issues.

I installed it on Sun Virtualbox the other day, seems like a pretty cool OS actually. I didn't give it much of a go though as i wanted what little space was left on my puny hard drive back lol.
I should be purchasing an external HDD soon though so i'll have a proper crack at it then
-
It works better than Vista on my Studio 1535. All the Vista drivers will work perfectly.
-
I don't expect there to be a lot of problems since it is an RC version of Windows 7. The beta was horrible but most problems have since been fixed. I'd say give it a go.
-
I wouldn't even say the beta was horrible...I enjoyed the hell out of the original beta build 7000, and the only issue I had was with PunkBuster, and that's not the fault of Windows. Not to mention it still happens in RC 7100.
-
Well, on my Studio 15 it gave a lot random blue screens, even after reinstalling. I never knew what caused them so I decided to stick with Vista until now. I've have had 0 problems this time around, but I can't really compare since it is a different computer.
-
Beats me. We had pretty much exactly the same laptop at that point, too.
-
I know, it's mind boggling. Maybe the motherboard I purchased had issues that the seller didn't disclose. Yay for shady sellers.
Oh well. It's nice to have a problem free laptop. Maybe in the future I'll go back to a Studio 15 when stablility isn't needed for school
-
Maybe you ought to invest in a Studio 1555. 90% of the issues you talked about were related to the touch panel, which is conspicuously absent from the 1555.
-
Yeah but I liked the touch media controls. I can't stand when they assign them to the F keys, I had to deal with that crap on my old Latitude. Even this inspiron has it's own media controls. Even if they were just separate from the keyboard would be nice.
I might just go with the 1537. We'll see what happens. For the time being I am perfectly content with my Inspiron.
-
Yeah, you'd think it wouldn't be too much trouble for Dell to just put physical buttons where the capacitive ones used to be. Ah well...probably because they're concentrating on making the Studio a very minimalist-looking machine. No front or rear ports of any kind, and now no buttons except the keyboard and touchpad buttons...
If you're getting a 1537, get the Special Edition and tell me how awesome it is.

Ok well posting this via Windows 7 RC on my studio 15.
No issues as of now, Windows 7 RC did work out of the box, only drivers I needed was the Alps touch pad drivers since the default ones did not let me scroll via the touchpad and the bluetooth drivers. Installed all these drivers straight from the Dell Vista drivers cd's that came with the laptop and they worked like a charm.
I have a ADSL connection Wifi'd, Win7 connected without any glitches to my router and enabled me to access the internet. Also I was able to use the Homegroup option via which my desktop was shared which also has the RC.
I installed the following drivers
1) ATI Catalyst Win 7 Drivers (Optional)
2) Sound Drivers (Optional, off the Dell Driver Cd)
3) Alps Touch Pad Drivers (Nessecary without which the scroll options did not work)
4) Bluetooth Drivers (Nessecary)
All in all a nice experience, really loving Windows 7 definitely looking forward to upgrading to it.Attached Files:

I install win7 RC on my Studio 1536, it runs perfectly!
-
Omg! Lol. Finally someone else who owns a 1536.
-
Haha, too true. I think yours is the only other one I've seen.
-
Lmao. Watch it be a typo. *sigh*
-
lol! I was always confused about the 1535's, 6's, 7's... Mine is a 1535 rite ??
-
1536 has a AMD processor and ATI integrated GPU, I bought this one with red lid at a local staples store for 599 bucks. I wanted a latest 1555 but it would take too long to ship directly from Dell. and the 1555 entry model with 4G memory and 320G hard drive is about 150 bucks more expensive.
-
So it is true.
How do you like the 1536?
-
The speakers need improvement, the sound quality is just poor, I can hear broken sound when the volume is high , other than that, I am pretty happy with what I got.
-
When you start up your laptop, at the Dell splash screen, it should say "Studio 1535 Series" or something similar.
If you have an Intel processor, then you have either a 1535 or 1537. If you have AMD it's 1536.
Also, there may be a sticker on the bottom of the laptop that identifies the model number.
Unfortunately, that's a universal complaint about all the original Studio 15 models (1535, 1536, and 1537). The speakers are just crap, and there's not much that can be done about it. -
I heard that the speakers in 1555 is much better, 1555 even has a sub woofer
-
Yeah, the 1555 supposedly has a better integrated sound system. But for the 1535-1537, you really can't do anything.
-
I've installed w7 rc yesterday, just after the initial vista set-up finished on my 1537
Very fast and good looking. The taskbar is just perfect.
I have the impression that the webcam is really blurry in Windows 7. Someone have the same issue? -
My Bad! I somehow never noticed that on the BIOS Screen, noticed that the day I posted that. Thanks anyways
