Anyone tried installing windows 98 / Windows 98 se on your machines?

I have Inspiron 6000 and was wondering if it would install win98 without any problems.

    Thanks!

There will not be any drivers available for the chipsets. But you can try.

From my understanding, he is just installing it to so he can do an upgrade to XP. Since he won't need to use the computer in 98 except to do the upgrade, I would think that he wouldn't need the drivers.

The windows xp setup routine will simply look for the Win 98 CD when doing a fresh install.

Yup that is just one of my option to do an upgrade of XP on a fresh install of Win98 without any drivers. Because I have copied my XP CD to my harddrive, So in win98 I can just run the .exe on XP setup and do an upgrade. Have been doing that on my Desktop but on my laptop. never tried.

I don't think you would have any problems you just might have to install all drivers yourself

OK thanks for all the responses. THe reason I asked you guys is that upgrading winXP from a Win98 would be my last option incase I failed to obtain the CD installer of XP. Thanks!
