    Hello,

I bought a Dell Studio 15 (1535) from Futureshop with the following specs:

    - Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 (2.10 GHZ, 3MB L2, 800MHz)
    - RAM: 4 GB
    - HardDrive: 320 GB SATA
    - Video: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450-256MB
    - Audio: SigmaTel STAC9228
    - Screen Size: 15.4"
    - Optical Drive: Blu-ray Disc ComboBlueRay drive

It is currently running a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I don't know why futureshop would put a 32bit OS on it when there is a 4 GB of RAM installed. I got this laptop at a good price so didn't care at the time of buying the version of OS.

Now I would like to do an upgrade or a clean install to 64 bit version of vista home premium. I called Dell support and they informed me that I can try to run 64 bit on my laptop and it may get installed but I may notice a performance degrade because the processor I got in my laptop is a 32 bit processor

I don't think the information I got is correct. Looking for some comments and options on upgrading/clean install on windows vista home premium 64 bit on the above listed Hardware.

P.S. I do see Futureshop does indeed ship the same laptop with 64 bit version of OS the only difference is that it is in french language.

Your CPU can handle 64bit. I would get it. It will recognize all your RAM, and is more responsive and faster than 32bit. ;)

I am running 64-Bit Vista with 4GB RAM, it uses about 2GB RAM just for Vista Caches about 800MB worth of stuff and leaves about 1GB of RAM Free.

Best OS I have ever used, I am so glad I went with 64-bit its 2009, Plays all my Old games Command and Conquer Generals and Warcraft 3

And the speed of Having a 64-bit CPU Core 2 Duo and a 64-bit OS really shine.

you got some misinformation, as your T8100 is a 64 bit processor.
