They should all be, although a general rule of thumb is get at least (1) dual core 64bit CPU (not a single core Core Solo or Turion64, (2) 1GB RAM minimum, (3) 60GB+ of HDD. All the video cards will support Aero and all the other fancy GUI stuff.

Yeah, all a system needs to be Vista premium compliant are-

    1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
    1 GB of system memory.
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with a WDDM driver, 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum), Pixel Shader 2.0 and 32 bits per pixel.
40 GB of hard drive capacity with 15 GB free space.
    DVD-ROM Drive.
    Audio output capability.
    Internet access capability.

If the GPU uses shared memory, then no additional graphics memory is required beyond the 1 GB system memory requirement; If the GPU uses dedicated memory then 128MB is required.

Almost all Dell(or any major manufacturer) systems meet these specifications. So, any system configured with the abpve specs should be Vista Premium ready.

No - and I was just a tiny bit miffed at that.

I got mine late in November with all the recommended features - and still only got the "vista capable" sticker. I don't think Dell makes a "Vista Premium" Sticker.

But then again what’s a sticker worth? I could make my own! :D

avoid the intel gma chipsets. I have heard they won't support the aero interface.

The current lineup are all vista capeable, but to be premium ready they need to have at least 1 gig of ram, which alot of the lower end base models dont ship with, so they would be premium capeable, but need an upgrade first

the 950 will run aero, if it will run it at high resolutions I kinda doubt, always go for a dedicated card if possible, though I would say in a few months a lot of notebook users will forgo aero glass after the novelty wears off, it will impact battery life and raise the temp of the system. The 3d hardware will be in constant use even for routine tasks, and all for the sake of eye candy.

the gma will run aero at any supported resolution as long as you have the ram to support it

The problem right now is lack of a WDDM driver for GMA900, but according to some people it is because of a hardware limitation inherent in the GMA900 design. If that is true then Intel may never release a driver.

If you really want the Vista aero look then you can install Stardock WindowBlinds with Vista look-alike theme. However performance won’t be as smooth as running the actual Aero theme.
