These drivers are intended for the Studio 1745. The intended use is for a fresh installation of XP_Pro_SP3 32bit. All files are Zipped, and safe. (But always scan any files you download with a good Virus Scan program such as BitDefender, Kaspersky, and Norton)

The links should allow you to just download them without any aggravation. If you notice anything wrong with links or files, please let me know. I don't mind correcting mistakes. After all, that's when you learn.

These files and links could be updated, and replaced accordingly to updates I come across. When reinstalling XP, I recommend installing the below drivers & software in the order of the listing.

The ATI driver also works for the 4570 as well.

Ok. I have uploaded the drivers that I use to run in XP. Some of these drivers are the same drivers that Ginuwine has given and some are ones that I have gotten from Dell's download site. They are for Vista 32bit, but work in XP great.

Please note that these files have been scanned for viruses, but as always, it is recommended to check them with your own antivirus software.

Here are the the drivers and the order that I have installed them in.

Finally, After much research I figured out why the 1394 net adapter has an exclamation point by it. If you look at the side of our port for the 1394 it is a small port only made for Cameras etc. Which uses the IEEE OHCI adapter, NOT THE 1394 Net Adapter! although they make an adapter to switch this from a small port to a larger one I have been unable to find anyway to make the driver startup. It just shows Code 10 Device cannot start. . Hoping to find a workaround if one exists. Haven't tore into the motherboard yet. Anyone know who the manufacturer of Dell's Studio 1745 motherboard is?

    Hi,
I just found this thread after searching for XP driver for my Studio 1745, but sadly, when I try to download the files it says

    Bandwidth Exceeded :(
    This file is unavailable because
this user has ran out of bandwidth
    Please try again later

I've tried yesterday and now today, but still the same problem.
Is there somehwere else I can download them? I would really need them soon because I need to install XP on it. I need to run a software that doesn't work on Windows Vista/7.

    Thanks

Diablo, I just checked with Fileden.com, and found that the links will refresh the bandwidth on 2-16-10. The links apparently have been exhausted since the listing. Try again tomorrow (2-16-10). They all should be good to go then. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Thanks ! :)
I will check for that tomorrow. By the way, is everything working fine on XP with that laptop and these drivers ?

And I have a question but I'm not sure if you can answer me.. I bought that laptop used (Studio 1745), and i have a connector on the left side wich look like a wifi antenna connector. I've read read in the Laptop's book that this is a plug for tv-tuner. Does that mean I have a build-in tv tuner? And how can I connect a cable there?

I'm just asking in case you know ;)

So far, everything works with XP good. When watching movies, use the PowerDVD. I do notice that CinePlayer that came with Roxio 2009 freezes up, and doesn't play at all. Haven't tried Roxio 2010 yet, so I'm not sure about that one.

The connector #7 (next to the ExpressCard slot) is for a TV tuner. No, it doesn't mean your Laptop has one. If it doesn't, you'll have to purchase one separately . Not sure if the connection actually gives the signal, or is used for turning. I don't have the TV tuner card on my mine.

I do have a Hauppauge TV/FM tuner card in my desktop. It works good. You have to plug the cable in the video input to get video & sound, and then connect the FM radio antenna to another plugin for the radio.

I have a tv tuner in my desktop too, but since it's my first laptop and I don't know much about these, I've never heard of that kind of connector. I tought the only possible TV tuner for a laptop were the usb ones. Anyway I guess i don't have one because Ubuntu would probably see it if there was one.

I'm trying to install XP but while the CD is loading, I get a blue screen after a few minutes (before the first menu asking to press "F8"). I suspect that could be because i have AHCI enabled and that i have no AHCI drivers on a floppy... Could it be that ? Anyone got the blue screen?

I just disabled AHCI, and I'm not getting the blue screen anymore.. but I will probably get poor performance from the hard drives and poor energy economy too :-/ Any way to install it with AHCI ?

If you're using Western Digital HD's (only drives I'll use) ...you won't need AHCI settings in the BIOS. Don't need to install AHCI drivers either. Check your HD, and if it's WD...you're good to go.

Well it seems that my hard drives in the laptop are Seagate (the numbers are STxxxxx). i tought ALL studio 1745 would have the same hard drive brand. I also prefer WD... hehe but I'm stuck with 2 Seagate now :p
Why does the WD don't need AHCI in the bios? I don't understand that.. really.

Nope. You're not either. Call Dell, and tell them about the issues with Seagate. They've had issues with vibration and noises with some of them. They know all about it. Ask them to replace the Seages with WD Black Series.

Keep this next part in mind. WD makes two different versions of the Black (7200rpm drives). One is the WITH FreeFall Sectors; the other is WITHOUT FreeFall Sectors. Tell Dell to send you the one WITHOUT FreeFall. They've had some problems getting the WITH FreeFall drives. I don't know why. It doesn't matter anyway because you HAVE to install the FreeFall software on the drive anyway, soooo...it doesn't matter. Have this page open when you call them. It lists the WD drives from Dell.

    http://search.dell.com/results.aspx...~srd=False&ipsys=False&advsrch=False&~ck=anav

I'm sharing this with you because when I got my Studio 1745 around two months ago, I done this very thing. They sent me TWO WD's (Black 320gb series) to replace the Seagates. At first, they informed they didn't have WD's WITH FreeFall Sector in stock, so I asked to send me the one's WITHOUT FreeFall. I got them 2 days later.

I can't say that I'm having noise issues with my Seagate (2 x 500gb). In one of my desktops, I have a 500GB Seagate (I bought it 2 years ago) and I never had problems with it, so i guess they are not all bad hehe.

I didn't have problems with Seagate, but assumed there would eventually be problems. Seen many threads about it on the Dell sight. Didn't want to chance it. Besides, when placing the order, I specifically asked for WD's. They assured me it would come with TWO WD's. The Laptop came with Seagate. Since I'm paying for the HD's...I figure I'm gonna get what I want. If a hard drive doesn't have WD on it, then I don't want it.

I understand that ;) But I bought that laptop used (it's almost like new though) so I don't really feel like asking Dell to replace my hard drives when the laptop is registered to another name (I guess). I also have a preference for WD.

Hey guys sorry I haven't been on for a while. Doing some more updates to my Dell. Just installed a new faster processor and working on doin the Windows XP Mode in windows 7.

As to the comments made earlier about AHCI. You do need the ahci drivers for XP regardless of what brand of hard drive you have. I have the two WD drives as well and I needed to custom build a Windows XP disc with the ahci drivers for it.

Hey Ginuwine, is there a website that you are using to upload these files to? If so, I could upload the drivers and some of the drivers that I have used to make my XP work.

I haven't had to install special AHCI drivers to get XP to work. I do know that you have to select "ATA" in the BIOS instead of "AHCI" to get Western Digital drives to work. For Seagate, you must select "AHCI".

www.fileden.com is the sight I use. The file size limit is 50mb though, and you must log on at least one time every two months to keep your files there. Not a big deal though. It's the only place I've discovered in which you click the link, and the download begins. I don't much like the hassle that other sights give you.

Thanks man. Any, and all drivers help.

Thanks for the help. I have created an account.

I understand what your are doing. So for your XP you are running it under ATA? If that is the case I see why you don't have to install any drivers. That is true. If you wanted to have it use the AHCI you need to install the drivers, reason being is that XP doesn't have those drivers to install. I made my XP run on the AHCI so that when I am switching between XP and 7 all I have to change is the drive to boot from and not the HD setting.

Here is the link for the AHCI drivers that are needed for the Dell 1745. I used nLite to integrate these drivers into and make a new XP boot disc. It is the only way that you can install the drivers on a clean install since we don't have a 3.5 drive and the usb doesn't work either. I tried.

    http://www.fileden.com/files/2010/2/22/2771014/Dell1745/Intel_SATA_Driver.rar

Here is a link to read on how to make a XP disc using nLite

    http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/107504-integration-of-intels-sata-ahci-and-raid-drivers/

I will update more of the drivers that I use shortly.

Thanks Knight. I've used nLite before. Great program. I'll gather new updates, and do another disc with the AHCI drivers as well.

The SATA.rar file needs a password to unzip it. Do you have the pw?
Oh, can you slipstream the Codex file in with XP using nLite?

Ok. The file has been fixed. Redownload. This time no password protection.

I am not sure if you can slipstream the codecs or not. You might be able to. I haven't done it though.

Thanks for the drivers, they all work on my Studio 1745. I have only one problem. The keys for adjusting the backlight on the screen does not work. Well, the keys work, and the sun with the sunglasses and the bar indicating level of brightness do appear, but the brightness of the screen does not change.

I can change the brightness when in BIOS and before XP starts to load, but not in XP. The only way to set the brightness in XP is to unplug the power cord, adjust the brightness indicator (the bar with the sun wearing shades) using the function keys, and when I plug the power cord back in the brightness change.

Is there any way of getting the brightness to change simply by using the function keys? I have QuickSet installed. Adjusting the sound works, eject works.... it's just the brightness that won't change, and it's driving me nuts.

It all works fine in Windows 7, but I want XP.

When the power cord is plugged in, ...press FN + F4 to Lower it. Then unplug the power cord. That is only temporary though because pluggin the cord back in resets it. You have to repeat this before unplugging the cable. I've not found a way to get it work properly. It does work, but not the way we would like. I know it has something to do with this particular driver version, but I can't find any other version that works. I would suggest adjusting your brightness down some, and not depend on the Key function. Without the Quickset, your eject button won't work. I'd rather have the lighting problem than not have the eject funtion.

Rhade - Keep checking back for the links to be reset by Fileden. After so many downloads, they reset the bandwidth. I haven't found a sight that will host the files for free.

Thanks for answering. I tried ATI driver 10.2 (using mobility modder), but it made no difference. I've also tried different things with the Windows API for power management, but no luck so far.

I can't get the DeviceIoControl function to change the brightness using IOCTL_VIDEO_SET_DISPLAY_BRIGHTNESS. From what I've read of Microsoft info about the ACPI API for XP, there seems Dell has implemented some non-standard solution.

If I come up with a solution, I'll post it. Don't keep your breath ;)

I think the problem is more with the Quickset drivers (could be wrong though). That's what enables the touch button functions, and onscreen brightness to work. If we can find another version that will install on XP Pro, then this minor problem could be solved.

this drivers seem to work okay . but one of them is making some weird calls from vista i suppose. csrss.exe is constantly making hdd to IO read from the registry. every 1-2 seconds the hdd is accessed. anyone managed to find the cause of this ? its really annoying.

    Thanks for the drivers.

I have a question about display modes.

We're trying to get the resolution set at higher than 1600*900 but it's bigger than the screen if we set it like that.

I've noticed that in device manager under 'monitors' there appear to be 4 monitors (2 default and 2 plugnplay) and I'm thinking this is where the issue is. Is this normal for an XP setup?

    Cheers,

    Tim

I didn't have any problems with the IDT Audio zip file I included in the beginning. Now, I'm trying to reinstall XP_Pro_32bit...and I keep getting this error message...
"_ExitError: Error=Device Onject not present, restart system and run setup again."

I've never seen this error before. I did SlipStream this installation of XP back in June, and now can't get this very same IDT file to work...that worked once before with no problems.

Anyone else having this problem that's experimenting around with XP on the Studio 1745??

Scenario: I'm reinstalling a fresh copy of XP again, and keep getting the error message...
(( "_ExitError: Error=Device Onject not present, restart system and run setup again."))
when trying to install the IDT Audio (R204591) file. I have no idea as to what the problem is. This file should install with no problems because I installed it a year ago using the very same XP Pro Installation disc. Now, I can't get it to install for some reason.

To eliminate suspicions of what the problem might be.....
    1. I have not updated the BIOS at all. So, it's Not that at all.
    2. Using the same XP CD I used before, and doing a super clean re-install.
    3. Re-downloaded the file from Dell just to make sure the file I had was not corrupted.

Any of you guys experiencing this problem??
