Hello, I have a e1705 laptop with the Intel 3945ABG wireless card, and sometimes this card malfunctions.

The internet just stops working on my machine, and I cannot access my home network from my machine. I can still use cable based network connectivity, but wireless connectivity just dies. It can be fixed by restarting the machine, but this is obviously annoying. This occurs approximately once every 24 hours, but it varies. I am not doing anything special when the wireless connectivity dies; it appears to die randomly.

When the wireless dies, the green light that says "WiFi" (next to the num lock and caps lock lights) turns off. I have tried pressing Fn + F2 to make it turn on again, but it does nothing. The Dell QuickSet indicator will flash on the screen indicating whether wireless is on or off when I press Fn + F2, but the wireless is still dead until I restart.

I have already tried updating to the most recent drivers offered by intel at: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/fil...fessional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go%21

My OS is Windows XP Pro, and I use Intel to manage the wi-fi

Does anyone have any advice on what the problem is or how to fix it?

I've never heard of this on XP, only Vista - but this was my Vista fix, and if it works all I ask is for a rep point from you :p

First, go to Device manager. Then go to the Intel PROSet 3945ABG network card under the Network Adapter's tab, and right click and select Update Driver Software. Select Browse my computer for driver software, then make sure to select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. You want to select the one that says "IntelĀ® PRO/Wrieless 3945ABG Network Connection (Microsoft)" and make sure it has Microsoft after it, and NOT Intel.

Don't ask me why this works, but it does. Also, you can NEVER AGAIN use ANY Intel Driver (even those that worked before). You MUST continue to use the Microsoft Driver until Intel fixes it (which I wouldn't give my hopes up for). Dell blames Microsoft, Microsoft blames Intel, Intel says they do not provide support for OEM devices. But I GUARANTEE you this works, and you will never again have this problem - just NEVER, NEVER, EVER touch your drivers anymore. If you do, you'll have the same problem. If you are feeling daring though, you can always revert back to the Microsoft Driver after you realize you f'd up :)
