I never noticed this before, or it recently changed. I have an ABG3945 module as part of the Duo Centrino setup. When I hover over the Network Connection is says "Wireless Connection 2 (SSID)"
![]()
Who has it say 2, or what does it say?
Why would it say 2 if I only have one?

ive had my ethernet be called "Local Area Network 5" before, and i only had one ethernet cable and my wireless card...
i just left it, dont think it harms Windows or your laptop in any way. -

Did you reinstall your driver software?
-
Yes, yes I did.
It kept getting hung up. The connection would seize, and it was strange. I could mouseover the tray icon and get details, but the right-clock was gone. Also if I went Control Panel > Network Connections it would lock up. Even upon a shutdown an occasional Connections Tray would fail to close.
I had downloaded the latest driver from Dell's Support site. Never had any issues with wireless before. Another frequent problem was that I had to keep Right-click and repairing to reestablish from time to time.
So, I removed the Intel Proset, and downloaded the adapter driver only directly fron Intel. I'll soon learn if it is any change.
Is that why it has a different adapter number? How would I change it back? (OCD). -

You need to dig around in the control panel under networking, or it could be a simple as right clicking the offending icon in your screenshot and deleting it that way.

Right click > Rename

i used to have that problem. someone told me it was windows getting confused with other wireless devices on the same network. dont know if that makes any sense.
