So I have a laptop that's coming up on two years old soon. I know alot of you may shudder at that thought, but it's holding up well.

Anyways, my question is this: Is it possible to replace my WiFi with the Intel 4965 Wireless-N mini card? And if so, is it also possible to replace the Mini-Card antenna cables, since I currently only have 2 antenna cables, and the 4965 has 3 connectors for optimal wireless n use.

Also, I'm looking at D-Link's DIR-655, anyone got an opinion on that?

There shouldn't be anything stopping you from swapping your default card with the 4965 and only using two antennae. It won't be "optimal", but there's no reason it shouldn't work. If you can pick up another antennae, you can route it through the laptop somewhat and "optimize" your configuration.

That being said, there isn't much need for wireless N right now, I don't think it's worth the upgrade at the moment, especially if you're gonna go through the trouble of routing that third wire. Of course, if you have a specific need for wireless N somewhere, it's a different story.

Don't know much about the router, but I've been using D-Link PCI wireless adapters for a while and they have been holding up well.

well the current router my family uses is a Linksys. I love Linksys, but Wireless B with 3 laptops just doesn't cut it. And while non of the laptops currently have Wireless N, I believe it would just be silly to upgrade to Wireless G when I'd have to upgrade again so soon after.

what would you guys recommend, the Intel 4965 or something by Atheros (preferably only needing 2 antenna connections)?
