USB Says Goodbye To Cables Forever
Are you sick and tired actually plugging in your USB cables? Have no fear - you can now do without.
USB.org announced today that they have officially certified the first 6 consumer devices - among them, two laptops. Wireless USB allows you to connect up to 127 devices and transfer data and music up to 480Mb/s without any cables.
The Dell Inspiron 1720 notebook and the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 were named as being the first computers ever to be certified, but this is only the beginning. Look for more and more certified devices to come. You can identify certified devices by the use of the Wireless USB logo.
So why do you want this? The new wireless USB will allow you to connect to all the things that you already connect to, but you can do it without any wires up to 16 to 35 feet away. With the use of a wireless hub, you can connect pretty much anything that's currently plugged into your system. The hub will be available in the coming months.
I am looking forward to putting my laptop on my desk and having my monitor and printer connect automatically. Can't wait to see who's next to be certified.
