I’m interested in purchasing a E1705 and have a question on the wireless card options.

    Dell list’s three options:

    -Dell Wireless 1390b/g
    -Intel Pro/Wireless 3945a/g
    -Hi-Speed Dell Draft N Wireless

My home wireless network is a Dell True Mobile 1184 wireless router (802.11b)

Is the draft N worth the extra cash for extra compatibility?
Is the Intel Pro/Wireless 1390a/g not 802.11b compatible?

Of these three cards what would be my best option for my home network as well as traveling options?

    Thanks in advance

1.) I would avoid Draft-N right now, you don't have a Draft-N router and there have been quite a few issues with N. Wait until it's a real standard and then you can upgrade if you want. It's a simple operation to switch wireless cards and they are not terribly expensive.
2.) The Intel A/G card is indeed B-compatible as mentioned, G is backwards-compatible with B.
3.) I'd recommend either the Dell wireless or Intel wireless. You will have the best connectivity options with the Intel, as it offers the "A" band, but that's more for businesses--G has largely eclipsed it.

I have the N-draft wireless card and I have had no problems connecting to a regular G wireless router. I personally would go with the draft-N. I am by know means a computer expert but I just thought i would let you know that i have experienced no problems with the draft-n card in my e1705

It may depend on your budget. I would rate memory over wireless. I went with the Dell wireless and I think its great. I have another laptop with the Intel wireless and I actually prefer the Dell wireless over the Intel. I would even rate CPU over wireless. CPU's are harder to upgrade.

No matter what you choose, your bottle neck is your router. You may want to consider upgrading that guy.
