    Wireless cards for Inspiron 1545

    Hi all.....I am trying to find a replacement wirless cards for the Inspiron 1545, can any one suggest the cards that will work fine.

    As far as the hardware compatibility is concerned any half-height Mini-Card except the Bluetooth combo cards may be compatible. However, during the purchase you have to ensure that, there is compatible driver available for the ‘Operating System’ that you have installed in the Laptop. Please find the name of few cards which can be used in Inspiron 1545.

    • Intel Wireless 5100 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1520 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1515 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1510 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1501 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1502 WLAN
    • Dell Wireless 1503 WLAN

    I recently installed an Intel 6230 card like this one:

    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 abgn WiFi + Bluetooth 3.0 Wireless N Combo Card | eBay

    and am well pleased with it. It is wireless N, and has Bluetooth and Wireless Display (WiDi) for wireless connection to your TV. My 1545 did not have Bluetooth until I installed this card, but am happy to have Bluetooth now. I am curious why Swapnajan mentioned avoiding the Bluetooth combo cards.

    If the Intel wireless adapters aren't an option when configuring the laptop, that would be the reason. It simply means it hasn't been tested and may or may not work (99.9999% of the time it works). If the Intel wireless adapters are an option in the Inspiron 1545, then i'm as clueless as you are.

    I apologize for the confusion about the previous post. As ‘tijo' posted, the reason why I mentioned only few names is because those were tested and confirmed as working fine with the normal configuration. Also the Bluetooth combo may or may not work. Thank you for posting that, the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 a\b\g\n Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 3.0 Wireless N Combo Card also works well with the Inspiron 1545. Similarly, some other cards may also work fine however; we have not tested and confirmed it.

    In my experience, unless there is a bios whitelist (which to my knowledge Dell does not implement), any generic wireless adapter will work excluding the odd incompatibility case that no one can really explain.
