Hey folks,
My Inspiron 1520 has been having a random issue. In a quick break down here is the problem(s).
- When ever I turn off my wireless switch, the WiFi light sometimes will go off immediately or 5 seconds later - but the light will return on when no wireless activity is initiated and the switch is off. (Note that in the BIOS my wireless settings is "all" so everything shuts off when I hit the switch.
- My Wireless AdHoc setup is utterly horribly useless now. Out of the blue for no reason one day it's decided "I'm not gonna let the iPod touch connect to me to share internet access".
Things too note, I'm in a rural location, so I'm fixed too DIAL UP ONLY - don't tell me "upgrade to high speed" - it's not an option in this area, period. With that said, no wireless activity goes on within my household besides my laptop sharing it's rock'n 3KBPS dial up with my iPod touch (possibly my PSP if I ever get around to it).
I've also taken liberty in reinstalling, removing then reinstalling once again all the networking hardware drivers, I even tried using the Windows versions too. Same results, epic fail.
Suggestions, help?
Thanks in advance.

It could be a faulty wireless card or bad connection. If you're comfortable with opening your laptop up, check to make sure the card is firmly seated in its slot, and the antenna wires are connected.

Wireless dialup - mmm...
However, do try to open the computer up. It could very easily be that one of the antenna cables or the card itself is not firmly connected. If that doesn't resolve the problem, call Dell (if you're in warranty). If you're not, the next best option would be to buy a replacement card on ebay for ~$20. -
Thanks for the replies.
Lots of new faces! (wheres all the old regulars!)
I've already ripped my machine apart, as prior 2 weeks ago before the troubles happen when everything was working perfectly fine - I had to install a new inverter. But with that said, I opened my system before posting this thread and removed and reinserted the card, removed and reinserted the cables as well.
I made an interesting discovery my hard switch, if I jiggle a bit while in the OFF position, the WiFi comes on (as it has a bit of play). Possibly it's faulty.
But I'll rip it open and check of all the antenna's in the screen housing are okay, no damaged wires and what not and I'll re-check the card again.
Thanks.
