When you turn on Wireless on the side of your Vostro 1500, does the little light come on? Mine doesn't. I figured maybe it's only supposed to come on when you're actually connected to a wireless network, but I'm typing on it right now and nothing :(

Also, it seemed to 'jam' today. I shut it down every few days, leaving it on hibernate most of the time...last night I noticed everything was really laggy. Today at work it wouldn't pick up any wireless networks, saying wireless was off when it wasn't. I restarted and it is now fine. My friend, who has 2 or 3 Dell PCs, said that Dell does tend to have some hibernating 'glitches' sometimes. I hate the idea of having to send this back in. I'm not really bothered by the lack of a light, but if this 'semi-freezing' (lagging, not recognizing when wireless is turned on) persists, I'm afraid I may have to :( Could it have happened because I installed a few quite large programs on there and haven't restarted the laptop after the installations, just putting it in hibernate?

Has anyone else experienced this with their Vostro? (or any laptop, when it comes to the semi-freezing?

Yes, your wifi indicator should be on if your wifi catcher is set to "on", regardless of whether is is connected or not. My guess is that this behavior is just a sympton of something else. I would first start with the WLAN drivers. I would pull down the WLAN off dell.com support and re-install, and then check the DM.

Thanks. The semi-freezing thing happened again after I put the laptop on hibernate without switching off the wireless. I had to restart the computer to get it to connect to my network properly again. I'll check out the drivers on dell.com tomorrow.
