    Hi all,

I have a studio17 lappy that is connected to my wireless Linksys wrt54G router network at home but I cannot get onto the net when I open my explorer. My network icon says I am connected yet no access.

    Any thoughts as to why???

    Thanks

go to internet options>connections>lan settings and check if the proxy server is marked. if it does, just unmark it and you should be fine.

looks like proxy is not checked. Logging into the network is sporatic. I get on and other times it says limited access.

    thoughts..

Update: it looks like it may be a router issue although my other computer connected via wusb54g does not seem to have a problem.

The notebook would always see the wireless connection but not to the internet. I would get a local access only. It may be a coincidence but when I unplugged the linksys wrt54g and replug it back in, my connection is found.

Any thoughts what it could be?

check the IP properties for the one that connects properly - my guess is that it is setup with a hard coded IP address (something like 192.168.1.10)... and is not a DHCP address.

now check your new lappy. It's trying to get it's IP form a DHCP server isn't it?

if this is the case, you have two choices.

    A) log into your router, go to admin options, and set it up to be a DHCP server. Now change all laptop/desktop computers net cards to get their IP from DHCP (or at least to use a corresponding static sub-range).

    -or-

    B) go into your lappy's TCP/IP propteries, select "use the following ip address:" and enter a valid and unique address (make sure it's not currently in use by another computer)

    cheers
