    Hello All,

Wisdom needed in regards to a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. The question has been asked many times about a black screen with a white blinking cursor when you boot up. I have tried all tips posted on just about every web site know to man kind and still have the same problem.

I have run all tests and have past with no errors, I have reinstalled window 7 however when it goes to restart on installation it will reboot and again stop at black screen with cursor. I have formatted all drives prior to installation except the X: drive because it pops up write protected. I have tried to install windows 7 on both the c: and d: drives still won't boot into windows.

I have also tried to install Windows XP but that won't install at all, it will stop at a blue screen saying run ckdisk. Tried Windows Vista when that reboots same as Windows 7, black screen with cursor.

I have no clue what to do next, wisdom needed....

    Tyvm,

Try a different drive? Do you know for sure that the drive you are currently using isn't bad?

Also downloading and running a linux liveCD and /or the Dell diagnostics should narrow the problem down. Seems to be hard disk related.
